Just go to ClearOne during their Super Elite group's training sessions on Tuesdays and (I believe) Sundays. -Rick
Oh ~doh!!! I totally didn't realize it was you, Cindy! To more seriously answer your question, I'm sure Shaolin could jumpsmash and nail Eric in the head. -Rick
Knew one who was an ex Malaysian Doubles player - Chor Hooi Yee. Small girl who is about 160cm. Boy can she jump!
The only woman, pro or amateur, I've seen really jumpsmash is Charmaine Reid of team Canada. When playing women's doubles, she executes real, full-out, jumpsmashes every chance she gets, just like men. She can hit harder than most men (non-pro) that I know. And no, she isn't butch or anything like that. She's slim, fit, and fairly tall (5'8"?). Pretty darn cool .
... *ahem* well seriously, I'm just being honest. It's not exactly necessary to jumpsmash anyway... most of those girls can hit fairly hard for their size and age as it is. Especially Badrad Jr... whamo!!! Always impresses me with the shuttle velocities she can generate. Probably harder than my smash . Chip off the ole block eh Badrad?
I second Timeless's post. None of the BC girls jump smash.. nor do they need to...there are other much more important things to perfect than that. we know a certain Japanese girl who can smash quite hard without jumping at all!
Oh geez yes... that gal's smash (and every other stroke) puts my game to shame!! ... Which reminds me... think I'll go practise tonight, as well as watch her, 15love, Mr.15Love, etc. play tonight... their games always rock! It's cool having awesome players around to motivate oneself to strive for their level. Plus I always learn something when watching them.
Really? None of our BC girls can jump smash? I certainly don't expect the same kind of jump smashes that Darryl and Eric performs, but still... I thought I've seen little badrad jump smashing before... -Rick
You probably saw one of the girls hopping up to quickly cut the shuttle down or something. Basically, none of the girls that I know of, besides Charmaine Reid, can jump high enough to sharpen the angle of their attack to make it worth all that effort. On top of that, any extra power they can generate from a jump smash, also isn't worth the extra effort because it's still not fast enough to hit through most of their opponents. Especially considering most of these girls can return the smashes of their male counterparts. It's just not practical. So like 15Love says, they get their points by honing their other skills. Personally, I think at an amateur level, most players, especially males, rely too much on power rather than other skills to get their points. It seems to me that such players have a rough time breaking into higher levels of play because they build their game around their smash so much. Or maybe I'm just saying this because my own smash sucks so I'm trying to make up for it in other ways hahaha .
Well said there - and sadly I am one of these amateurs who can put holes through nets but can't win....
