If the player wants to continue playing, it is in his right to do so. If he's delaying, however, while injured and does not want to see the referee, he will get carded for delay of game.

thanks. During World Championship 2013, did LCW retire on his own or did the umpire or referee stop the match?

When LCW nodded and went over to the net to shake LD's hand that was him retiring. The umpire accidentally announced it before. The referee open armed pointed him back on to court so she did not stop it. It was a bit confusing because LCW kept thinking he was going to walk back on the court and play, where as everyone else just assumed it was over because he couldn't even walk never mind play badminton.
