Are there any females that do the full on leap in the air jump smash like FHF, LD or LCW. I watch a lot of mens singles and doubles so I was just wondering. If you do know of a female that does, please provide a pic of them doing a full on jump smash! Cheers
Not many females do full on jump smashes but there are several that actually do jump smash. I believe one of the Malaysian WD players do. Juhl of Denmark does it on occasion. A few Chinese players too. Lee So Hee of Korea. It's a pity in the game of WD there's no use in doing a full jump smash as in general they just don't hit hard enough on average to gain any advantage doing that as they're used to training and taking full jump smashes from the men as well.
Although the German seems to be retired, Juliane Schenck did it on occasion. The problem for the ladies is that they don't dare to commit to a jump smash as much as the men. The men use their physicality to get ready for the next shot, whereas the women would stubble to prepare if the shuttle did make it back. In addition, consider that ladies' matches tend to last longer, so conserving energy may play a role in hindering the development of the jump-smash in the women's game.
Thanks guys for all the replys, that Kirsty Gilmore was the type of picture I was looking for, I personally thought it is not as common because the females wont gain as much as males do. But thank you all
I was sure there was a thread open on this topic. The closest thing I can find is this one, in which some posters mention the jump-smashers. Some that come up there are Greysia Polii and Linda Zetchiri. I also mentioned Camilla Sorensen in the Porntip thread, where another member posited that Porntip was the only jump smasher in women's singles.
I haven't noticed Lee So Hee doing it as much these days, though she and Choi Hye In both did plenty when they were juniors. Lee will likely do even less now that she's had knee surgery.
I was watching the Japan Open today and Ou Dongni, the yongster who used to play WD with Tang Yuanting but now partnering Xiong Mengjing, jump smashed throughout the match against Ko and Yoo of Korea. Her smashes didn't seem to have superwomen power like WXL's but she jump smashed quite consistently.
very much agree that Schenk and Cheng Shao have nice jump smashes. But Gilmour uses hers with much more frequency and I think she gets the best height (relative to HER height). Gilmour is the real deal.
I remember I watched Juliane Schenk and Yip Pui Yin did jumping smashes at 2013 Indonesia Open semifinals. How they did jumping smash I think almost like a men do jumping smash. And in term of power, I think Juliane Schenk's is more powerful than average women shuttler'. But of course the power is still (far?) below average men smash power. I don't have statistics to prove that, it's just based on from what I've seen.
