Source from one of the close friend of Zhang Wei in Shanghai. some rumours reveals he has battled with China double head coach Tang Xian Wu. Li Yong Bo has asked him to return to national team but his refused. Since Tang took over China double coach and the level of playing is awful to many veterans. Hope Yap Kim Hock can do the same.
according to Li Yongbo, Zhang Wei was asked to return to the Shanghai team cuz of his injuries. He's not fit enough to train with the national team anymore and it's hard to find him a partner due to his age and injuries. apparantly, before the chinese team went to train in Jin Jiang (during the SARS period), Zhang Wei already couldn't keep up with the training and went back to Shanghai twice to see to his injuries. then, the coaches decided to send him back to Shanghai whilst the whole team went to Jin Jiang to completely cure his injuries. then, due to SARS, he couldn't make it to Jin Jiang to train for quite a while and when he finally did, he still couldn't keep up with the intense training. Li Yongbo states that at the moment, it is impossible for Zhang Wei to keep up with both the training and the tournaments and is therefore better for him to go back to tthe Shanghai team and train there. However, if he does get better, he will be able to return to the national team as long as he is willing to.
