Is this okay? I heard it could get moldy and stuff underneath due to the sweat...

If you have sweaty hands, yes it'll cause mold and worse yet, rot of the wood.

Just use a layer of electrical tape directly on the wood first.

No, has to be plastic tape that is impervious to moisture, eg. electrical tape.

Oh, no need to go online. Just go to home hardware store like Home Depot or Canadian Tire. Only like $3

If he's happy with his handle, that's great! But since he wants to, uh, waterproof it, he could use this, er, rubber thingy, omit the replacement grip step and go directly to overgrip. He'd get great bevels, direct feel and (more-or-less) the same diameter- all for a more rewarding experience!

Wait! What am I talking about?

I use grap on bare wood. I have a G5 racket. I use double sided sticky tape to secure it to the wood but the grap wears extremely quickly. This happened after 5 hrs of play. The edges are worn through. I should add I work with my hands so they are a little rough. I also have a question on how you stop the bulge grip from moving up the handle? I currently use old grap cut down and stuck round using the old grap sticky tape.

Try not to stretch grap a lot it prolongs the life, it's lasting me more than a month, not sure about the bulge because I don't make one
