    Hi,

I've been having issues with the Victor VS-850 string when I string it at 30lbs. My machine is a Gamma Progression ES II Plus. After stringing my strings do not even last 1 game while my other strings do not exhibit this.

I have found when I am stringing my racquets the VS-850 tends to get nicked when I am stringing it as opposed to when I use strings such as BG-65 and NBG-95 which do not get damaged at all.
I have inspected my clamps, as well as my machine tensioner and I cannot find the cause. I have even used tape to cover parts of the tensioner as a precaution to prevent it from damaging the string but to no avail.
I do not believe it is a grommet issue either as none of them are damaged and I do replace them when I see them worn out.

I'm not sure if it matters or not but I have been stringing the VS-850 on the TK-8000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the new batch? There have been some similar complaints from others in UK with the new batch... check out the VS850 thread.

Kwun: Yep, I've used BG-65 as well as NBG-95 on my TK-8000 and they last roughly a week to two which is what I am expecting at that tension.

Visor: I'm not sure if its a new batch or not.. I received the strings roughly when the TK-8000 came out in Canada. I got the VS850 in two reels but I have yet to open the other reel.
If it is a defective batch would you recommend stringing at a lower tension to prevent premature breakage or is the string just a no-go in general?

    Thanks!

you must be hitting really hard and playing a lot coz even with BG65 @ 30lbs they last quite a bit longer.

Doesn't sound like the new batch, if you had it since early this year.

It is a pretty textured string... are you sure you're not friction cutting into the strings when you're pulling your crosses across?

where do the string break? i cannot imagine it is the middle of the sweet spot.

    how old is the TK8000?

I have ZM62 @ 30lbs lasting for days. VS850 should last more than a game.

How do you get zm62 @30lbs to last that long? Mine at 24lbs only last 1 game from an off centre hit. :(

What frequency does it ping at? 1300 Hz?

I've seen this happening with packs of white and yellow but, weirdly, not reels.

coz i am a weakling and i hit the sweetspot everytime. ;)

i didn't record the 30lbs string job, but i do have some at 27lbs and those are already 1296Hz. so 30lbs.. i think must have been in the mid-1300s.

I don't believe I'm damaging the strings due to friction cutting as I'm pulling them on an angle and the crosses seem alright upon inspection.

I guess I might have a bad batch of VS850, I'll try the other reel sometime and hope I don't run into the same issue.

Thanks again for all the input!

That is just crazy... I can barely imagine how tight the stringbed is, and those poor shared grommets probably need changing with each string job.

    i am not sure.

honestly going from 24->30 is not really that big of a step up, if you look at it, it is only 25% more. the grommets or racket are not about to collapse so easily. ;)

we feel that it is a lot coz our perceptual baseline starts around 20lbs, so going to 30lbs seems like it was doubled plus more. but in reality, it is not so.

or did i just jinx myself?

I had my VS850s snap on me once after I strung it. The 2nd time I strung it and it was fine...

Might have just been bad luck.

I strung my cousin's racket too with these strings and they are still fine.

I had another green one go during stringing the other day (luckily it was early on), and I've noticed some nicks in the coating.

I'm officially off this stuff now.

Yep I just opened a brand new reel of the VS850 and it snapped fairly early on for me as well.
I'm very disappointed with this string as I now have 2 reels that are pretty much useless.

Today, I got my Wise 2086.

I needed to get my Brave Sword 15 (two) strung. I broke about 3 sets of string...

2 of them on the last cross... and 1 2 mains in. I have no idea why this string breaks out of nowhere...

Its a shame because it plays extremely well...

I had one break that was really odd... when I was pulling the last cross, it decided to snap right on the beginning cross tie off..

This really needs flagging up with Victor - it's happening too often with too many people now to be coincidence.

Could be that they tweaked the formula to address the tension hold problems and inadvertently caused it to be more brittle and less able to sustain tension? Or have they changed their factory like they did with their racquets?

Does the new VS850 still say "made in japan" on the string?

And were these from a reputable retailer?

The only time I have experienced similar problems was with fake Yonex strings... snapping at circa 22-24lb on the machine.
