Hi guys, I had a karakal strung at 26lbs in red ultimax, now have a carlton strung at 25lbs in nanogy. Why is it that I was hitting a brick wall with ultimax but nanogy feels like a trampoline, but there is onl 1lbs difference. But yonex rate the both as medium feeling. Personally I think ultimax a hard string and nanogy is soft, even my coach says they are soft. So why do they feel so different when but are both rated medium by yonex? Cheers
They both should feel similarly medium. Perhaps the ultimax was recently strung or its racket shaft is stiffer, leading to the harder feel.
1) String density difference: Is one racket iso and the other oval? Does one racket have a higher string density than the other? 2) Apparent tension due to Ultimax being a thinner string: Ultimax is .65mm while NBG98 is .66mm. I don't know why the differences are so drastic, but I have never used NBG98.
it'll be quite difficult to make a good comparison if you have different racquets with different strings. either have: two different racquets with the same strings or, two of the same racquets but different strings.
Yeah, that makes sense now. How many mains x crosses for each racket? The oval likely has the denser string pattern.
To check stringing pattern, count the number of knots to determine how many piece stringing. (# knot/2 = # piece stringing) The stringer probably uses the same cross method (top-bottom or top-bottom), and come to think of it, these both are probably the same. The stringing should be pretty consistent if you have one stringer for both. visor has good insight. Higher string density makes the racket feel more like a wall because the string isn't on the stringbed for so long.
I had a much better experience with NBG98 silver/gold than BG66UM black/white. Better repulsion with NBG98, but didn't sound quite as good. BG66UM would have such a nice high-pitch sound but the clear would go like 3/4 the distance that I need it to. NBG98 feels more slippery, but I didn't have too much of an issue with that. Taufik is a beast for getting anything out of BG66UM at 33+lbs.
Yeah, Taufik has amazing strength in his forearm and my nanogy's slip around a lot, I to make them straight with my fingers, is that coz 25lbs is too low for nanogy?
