Hi, I'm no buff on string tensions. I have a yonex cab 8200 light and I'm going to re-string it with yonex bg-85. What would be a good tension to string it at? I'm having trouble getting power with this racquet and the factory strings so that is a factor...
Kwun strikes again! If I recall correctly, the Yonex recommendation is 20 lbs. But I have stung one to 25lbs repeatedly and it is still going fine.
Try 22 lbs main strings and 23/24 lbs cross, although Yonex recommends 10% more on the cross over the main on the newer Yonex racquets. Don't go beyond these for BG85.
Are your rackets strung by computerised or manual stringing machines ? I heard 21 lbs of the computerised one is a about 25 / 26 lbs of the manual one. And one more question, how much do you buy the racket ( In HK dollars )
That really depends on the machine though. About the tension on the racket, I would say, 20~23 is a very good range to start with. After using it, you can adjust to higher or lower later.
The 8200 Light is quite fragile, based on observation and experience. I had seen one broken from a minimal clash with another racquet (a Cab 21...). Perhaps for the 'Light' series, it'll be best not to get it too high as the frame may not be able to withstand possible pressure and clashes. Well, I think kwun was rolling his eyes up when he typed that "23lbs". There are already too many "Ideal... optimal... highest... lowest... best..." threads on string tension already.
I've had about two major clashes with my 8200 and it's still in one piece, so it might not be that fragile... I've had my Cab 8200 for about a year and a half, last had it strung about year ago, BG-65's at 20lbs. I can still clear end to end, so I'd go with what everyone else has said...
Ok one more question, I went to get my racquet restrung at sportchek with bg-65(get it back today) and in his book and on the racquet the recommended tension was 14-18 lbs. He said I shouldn't go past 21 when strung, and that it would loosen back to 18 and that they always string 3 lbs heavier than what the person wants. Was it ok for me to go higher or should I stick to the recommended tensions?
