After sharing my string bed frequency data in the thread started by visor http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...Stringbed-frequency-to-monitor-string-tension

I thought I could share with the community how I string badminton rackets for myself and friends.
Comments and questions are welcome.
(I'm sure you'll notice some oddities:
1. starting the mains
2. using loose string to thread the cross between 2 main grommets -> I don't like using awls)

Stringing Details:

Stringer: DarthHowie
Machine Setup: Gamma 6004 + Wise 2086 + Chudek Side Supports + ToyoZouki Fixed Clamps (GM-02106)
Wise 2086 Settings: Constant Pull & Prestretch 10%

Racket: Yonex Nanospeed 9900
String: Victor VS-850
Tension (main x cross): 25 x 27.5 lbs

Method: 2 piece 4 knot, Top Down proportional for crosses (top cross strung at 22 lbs, next 3 crosses strung at 26 lbs, all crosses after strung at 27.5 lbs).

String Bed Frequency (Measured by CarlTune App): 1258 Hz

One teeny weeny tip - when you clamp onto a string, lock the clamp first, then the base; if you lock the base first, there's a chance it could go out of alignment, and then you're clamping onto a mis-aligned string.

By the way, just from the sound those Yonex clamps are awesome;).

Every time I hear those Toyo clamps lock... waaaaaant.

Paul and I are going to have to do some videos if we end up at the All England again next year...

Yes please! I definitely enjoyed reading Paul's blog posts about the whole AE experience. I'm especially intrigued if you get to use the new Victor stringing machines next year. Want a full review and pics of that machine.

I'm sure you string enough rackets that you can justify the clamp purchase. I guess the only concern is whether the clamps will play nice with your new clamp bases.

Care to elaborate on your use of the loose string? How can pulling it help with threading a cross into a shared hole?

As I understand it there is only one VE80 in the world at the moment, but we had retailers over for brews on the Friday, so it's possible Victor Europe might want to have a "show machine" for them to see next time:) Personally, though, the VE50 would do me just fine;).

As far as clamps go, I'm about to embark on some fairly serious mods to get mine to work... keep your eye on the "custom parts" thread.

Any time a loop on the frame covers a hole, a loose string (or, in my case, a six-inch piece of flat shoelace) lets you pull that loop up out of the way without risking the awl.

On that particular racket it's especially useful, as Darth will attest: there are some very tight loops around that "A-concept" area (and on a Victor Meteor it's pretty much impossible to get the bottom cross in without the help of a loop-puller).

Mark A. Couldn't have answered it any better. Pretty much any cross grommet between 2 main grommets. I pull it up or down depending on whether the cross is going above or below the main.

Rackets that i use this method:
Yonex Arc Saber Z-Slash
Victor Meteors
Yonex Voltric Z-Force (version 1)
..and many more

I always pull the loop up (unless there's a very obvious grommet offset), for two reasons:

a) if you always do the same thing, you won't make a mistake,
b) almost all machines pull at a downward angle and having the cross under the main loopmeans you're not pulling onto it.

The only rackets where I don't use it are the OSPs (Braveswords, Pandas, etc).

Cookz - Thanks. 1998 WC - Dennis Bergkamp goal against Argentina. That's when i decided on a country to cheer for in Euro and World Cup. Hup Holland Hup! Dennis Bergkamp is also the reason why i support the Arsenal Gunners of the EPL. Dennis Bergkamp was the one player that got me into watch football. It's kinda hard to cheer for Canada since we're not any good at developing and retaining talented players (Owen Hargreaves and Julian De Guzman to name a few)

I'll try to put up a video when i get to string one of my Meteor JJS. You'll see A LOT more loose string in between grommets (top of head and bottom of head) when I string with 2 piece 4 knots. This is less of an issue if you're stringing 1 piece 2 knots (i've tried Haribito Pro) since you can pre-weave and plan things out.

I'll expect plenty of comments for that video since my tie-offs may be a tad long since i skip the "extra cross" at the bottom of the head. I really see no point to it and i save some string from my reels =)

I have to use six loops when I do Meteors (but then I do it properly and include the bottom cross:p). Nothing like getting halfway up a Lee Dong Keun 32/33 MX80 and realizing you've forgotten to put them in...
