Dear All, I am Intermediate player 35 years old 5.10 height 78Kg weight I am going to order one badminton racquet which mention following spec 5U/G5 5U mean 75 - 79g G5 mean Grip size ( 3.25 inches ) My question is What is the advantage and disadvantage if I order 5U racquet ( Low weight ) Please advice Thanks in advance
Which do you intend to play with the racket, singles or doubles? Such a low weight, the advantage will be speed and reaction, the disadvantage will be that you provide most of the power.
Dear mater Thanks for the reply I am Double player You mean using low weight racquet, we can achieve High speed and high reaction Disadvantage You mean I have to put lot of power for play Question 2 Racquet spec mention that it can apply extremely high stringing tension So I suppose to put 26 stringing tension Any advice
String and tension is very personal. So we can't judge what string and tension is the one to go for. What was your previous tension? IMO their is no need for a 5U racket. 4U should be fine and fast enough for doubles. I would lower my tension 2 lbs on a superlight racket to compensate the less swing weight.
Dear visor, Thanks for the reply The racquet I am going to buy spec says following Your advice is highly appreciated
Advantages: light weight & faster manouver. Disadvantages: fragile, less tension, might suffer from "one-hit-break" if ever clash with your opponent, more power required for smashing or clear hit. I'll say go for 4U instead. Especially you are buying nanoray series (which already light-weight enough for your wrist). Dont believe any marketing from Yonex that say 5U weight, due to its special grommets or shapes etc, can sustain higher tension string. It maybe could depending on the stringer, but once it clashes with you partner or miss-hit the shuttle on the frame, then you'll have to RIP your racket. So far to my knowledge, only Karakal BN60 (weight about 63gram...lightest ever) that can guarantee 32lbs tension. Haven't tried it yet.
