Chayut was the best player on court today followed by Tan Wee Kiong. Goh and Danny made so many errors today. Nevertheless, it was a good fight and congratulations to Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong for the gold!
Of course in total, although I was referring to the MD.
I thought our WD of Yao and Sari did well in the team event and would go on to win a medal in the individual, but somehow they disappointed themselves as much as they disappointed us.
Derek Wong is to be commended for his gusty and inspiring performance throughout. Nobody expected him to go beyond the SF but he did and in the process knocked out players with a higher world ranking. Only 2 points separated him from the gold medal and it could be his if he has more luck.
I hope Derek will continue improving and prepare well for Rio 2016 if he is eligible.
But I have to agree with one BCer here who singled out Chayut as the most outstanding!
Chayut really impressed me with his coolness and leadership in his partnership with Danny, always inspiring his partner to do better. His commitment to the cause cannot be faulted and this is made more exceptional as he recently returned to the fold to do full time service for our national team. This was evidenced by his all-out effort on the court. I dare say that without Chayut we won't get a MD medal of any colour.
But as a team seeded 4th, Singapore has done well to pip India to the bronze medal.
Two individual silver medals and a team bronze must have been a big improvement over the past series four years ago.
However, our numbers are far too small to make any major impact on the world badminton scene.
