Too early to tell but I hope Malaysia can nick a gold.

Almost certainly, China will have two (even if the favourites suddenly lose form or get injured, the second and third favourites would still be Chinese).

Korea will most likely have one (unless we have a suddenly resurgent Chinese mixed pair).

Favourite for men's singles is Chinese but there are a few close favourites too from Denmark (Gade), Malaysia (Wong CH) and Indonesia (Taufik). Maybe Korea, too (Lee HI). Any of them beating Lin Dan cannot be considered as major shocks. And there are quite a number of dark horses coming from all the badminton powers, and not-yet-powers like Thailand, Singapore or Hong Kong.

Men's doubles is even more interesting than singles. There is no clear-cut top pair at the moment. Anyone's game. If Ha Tae Kwon can improve to pre-injury level, if Choong/Lee can conquer their nerves and if all other top pairs can maintain their level, it will be the closest Olympic men's doubles ever.

We must recognize that the number of Olympics game will be fewer than tornament.

    My picks:
MS: Lin Dan or Wong choong Han
WS: Gong Ruina or Zhang Ning
MD: Indonesian pairs or Kim/Ha(Indonesian pairs played very well in Olympics.)
    WD: Gao/Huang or Ra/LEE

Did you see schedule of WD in Olympics?
8.19 Mixed Doubles Gold Medal Match
    8.20 Women's Doubles Semifinals
8.21 Women's Doubles Gold Medal Match

I think Ra will have advantageous terms. The most important thing to Ra is stamina.

    MD: Choong/Lee

I am saying this because no one can beat them if they play to their true form, I mean no one.

I also think Choong/Lee is the best double team in the world right now after watching how they dominated Ca/Fai in AE Semi-Final this year.

    First Pick:

    MS: Lin Dan
    MD: Choong/Lee
    WS: Mia Audina
    WD: Gao/Huang
    XD: Kim/Ra

    Second Pick:

    MS: Xia Xuznue
    MD: Kim/Ha
    WS: Zhang Ning
    WD: Ra/Lee
    XD: Zhang/Gao

from recent performance in TC the MD will go to Jonas and Lars. They defeated two of the best doubles in the world Flandi/eng and Cai/fu... I think WS and WD will be 100% chinese and in MX it will be korean. MS will together with MD be more open with Lin Dan as a favourite but not as a secure gold medal winner

Agree with above post on MD. Jonas and Lars look like hot favorites right now.

    My picks:
MS: Lin Dan - seriously, who would not pick him as #1 to win right now???  (I really hope Bao does well too. PG, Taufik are the ones to look out for from their respective nations. Wong needs to get a grip of himself and only then does he have shot at medal)

WS: Gong Ruina (Zhang, Zhou along with Mia and Camilla are contenders too)

MD: Jonas/Lars (both Chinese pairs, Kim/Ha, and Choong/Lee are contenders. Based on Indo's current performance, don't think they will make it)

    WD: Gao/Huang (Yang/Zhang or Ra/Lee for silver)

XD: Korean legends (Zhang/Gao for silver unless they can surprisingly topple the legends like they did at Sydney 2000!!!)

But as everybody have said, the Olympics is a strange place, where anything could happen. Just look at #1 seed Taufik who was poised to win at Sydney 2000 till he got knocked out at Quarters. Of course, Lin Dan won't have the same thing happen to him though..... :p :D :)

    MS: Lin Dan 90%
    WS: Zhang Ning 60%
    MD: Jonas/Lars 60%
    WD: Yang/Zhang 60%
    XD: Kim/Ra 90%

    :D

MS: Lin Dan | Silver: Xia Xuanze
    WS:Gong Ruina| Silver:Zhang Ning
    MD:Fu-Cai| Silver:Kim-Ha
    WD:Huang-Gao| Silver: Zhang-Yang or Ra-Lee
    XD:Kim-Ra|Silver:Zhang/Gao

the gold silver places are not fixed, they can switch (maybe except XD). Xia- he's not in the BEST form, but i have this gut feeling he'll do good

I think that Kim/Ha are the unbeatable ones when they are on form.. pity though that Ha is rarely fit now, much less playing 100%.

JR/Lars have a very good chance of grabbing the gold, as they were brilliant in the TC.

Cai/Fu I'm backing to go at least to the semis judging by their performance in the TC but they're going to have to think more and adjust their tactics to suit the situation quickly if they are going to post a serious challenge.

Also, never rule out the Korean WD pairs, as qualitatively, I'd say they are not worse than the Chinese, its just quantitively they are at a disadvantage.

MS: Sony! I am rooting for the guy whom everybody does not support! I like the way he picked Peter Gade and Wong CH off like flesh off chicken bone. On his day he'd match Lin Dan in all departments, except in sportsdiving. His celebration antiques need some way before matching that of Lin Dan though.

MD: Jonas/Lars. Back into the groove! JR will make BF proud! Maybe we can send him a BF t-shirt to wear in Athens so that the world can see! Kwun, this is BF's chance at world exposure!

WS: Gong Ruina. All hail Queen Gong. ;) Pretty, deadly, but vulnerable. This kind of woman make a guy go jelly at the knees. Xia's must be quite weak now...

WD: Gao/Huang. They play mean badminton, they smile a mean smile. Who can not want them to win? Photographer & journalists' dream come true.

XD: Legends, Kim/Ra. By winning here, they will become one of the immortals.
