    Hi folks,

Well... I've been muddling about with my browser for the past few hours, and cant seem to figure out what's wrong with my settings, and cant seem to figure out what's been wrong.

I keep getting the "server timed out" error.
Also been getting a "504 error" messages.

Anyone more technically experienced able to help me out here?

Thanks, any assistance is much appreciated.

Are you surfing from behind a firewall computer or something?

"Server timed out" means that the server you are requesting the page from is either down or unreachable. Quite common nowadays, with the DoS attacks etc.

Error 504 is "Gateway Time-Out", which could mean that the proxy or firewall computer is not responding. If you are using a computer behind a proxy or firewall computer, then you need to speak with the administrator about this.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Wilfred...

I've been surfing behind firewalls pretty much for the last 7 years or so...

Never had this type of problem...
The problem became apparent to me after I had downloaded an MS update for windows in early february... after that point, i noticed that I couldn't access a lot of sites on my computer, and that started to really become an annoyance to me, and it finally boiled over today...

In my moment of rage, I downloaded Mozilla, as I've never ever had a problem with that at all LOL.

So problem solved now. Everything is fine in Kelvin land again
    Thanks for the help folks.

Hey I got this problem as well. It's down in another post in chit chat.
Occurred same time as you. I don't recall downloading an MS update but that could have been the problem. I had to switch off my firewall (software).

    Any Lindows users out here?

    That's really interesting...

I haven't played around with my firewall settings at all though, so I'm almost sure it could not have been that... but in any event... I've deemed IE for myself flawed... I may eventually switch operating systems altogether, depending on how things go later on... I could just partition a new hard drive in the desktop unit I'm putting together, and have it Dual boot... Windows, and Lindows. :D
Speaking of which... is anyone out here using Lindows??
