    Hi...

How often do you replace (discard) your nylon shuttles?
Its fairly easy to spot the time to change feather shuttles coz when it "dies" the shuttle really wobbles alot and gets really irritating. However, I find that nylon shuttles maintain their consistency very well.

I read that you replace the nylon shuttle either when the cork comes off  or when the skirt tears... but the shuttle that I am using now has slight tears - 3 or 4 each about 5mm around the skirt - and i still feel that its fine... its not as nice as when it was new but fine...

Is there a more certain way to judge when to change a nylon shuttle...

    thanks

try feeling the cork to see if it is soft(bruised) or still nice and hard. I generally find that softened corks fly slower and has less sound to it upon impact.

when the cork is soft, then it's no good. That shuttle has been used for too long

In addition to the distance test, another useful thing to keep in mind is how fast that nylon shuttle is flying. When you first start off with a fresh nylon shuttle, make a mental note of how fast it flies. As you play with the nylong shuttle, the skirt will rip, the cage will deform, and the shuttle is gonna get faster and faster. If the birdie starts flying too fast, it's time to replace it.

There's no strict rulez about when to change a shuttle, either plastic or feather. To me, as long as most of the users are not satisfied with the performance of the shuttle, it's the time to change.

For plastic ones, usually it's like either the cork is too soft or the skirt is badly teared.

Hey Guys... thanks for your help...

I will compare the old shuttle with a new one the next time I play to check for shuttle distance and flight pattern and discard the old one if it is significantly different...
