Hi all. My AdiPower pro broke yesterday in a clash and I'm looking for an alternative.

I'm a lower-mid intermediate player, mainly playing doubles. Probably prefer the back court but my partner and I don't go out of our way to play certain positions so I'm comfortable with front and back.

My racquet before the APP was a voltric 5. I've also had experience with an arcsaber 11 and vtzf. At this point I'd say I'm comfortable with a stiff racquet and preferably not headlight. I was thinking of an mx90 or something in the thruster line but I'm also scared that I'll have trouble with defense. I've never tried a 4U racquet so is that something to consider?

Also on an end note, this is slightly off topic but just wanted some speculation on my racquet breaking. 4 months old, strung at 27lbs, clash was pretty loud and there's a severe crack in the 1/2 o'clock region. S*** happens? First racquet break so I'm not too sure.

    Thanks guys!

You hit any racket in certain spots in a certain way and it will break. Sucks but that's just the nature of the game, especially playing with someone you don't know particularly well.

If you're comfortable playing with any of the rackets that you mentioned, then I'd probably classify you as 'not particularly fussy' :) All of the Thrusters and Meteors are 300mm+ so they're all in-line with that you're used to, to varying degrees. It just really depends on what weight and balance you prefer.

Would you happen to know which is the faster frame between the TK9000 and the MX90, both in 3U (and maybe how they differ)? Thanks for your input!

Only tried both in 4u. Ime, MX90 felt faster than TK-9ooo due to its lighter head in comparison to the 9ooo. Coming frm a TK-9ooo user, nd to adjust swing speed for MX90. Due to its slimmer shaft, MX90 felt more than a tad flexier than TK-9ooo.

Imo, could imagine using MX90 for defensive game with fast returns. But personally, still prefer TK-9ooo as my kinda game is just the opposite.

Fair enough. I feel like my defense is a tad slow at times which was why I was leaning towards the MX90 as I was under the impression that it would be faster than the TK9000; which you have mentioned through your experience with the two racquets. So essentially my main concern is maneuverability but at the same time I'm not sure if 4U will feel weird as I have read that with many avid users of 3U racquets, 4U doesn't feel like it generates as much power.

Nonetheless, I will probably end up trying both racquets and maybe even in 4U in the future. Right now splurging on a bunch of racquets isn't necessarily within budget. :p

Thanks to both of you for your feedback!

I generate more power with 4U than I do with 3U. Light 3U (say, under 92g wet) I'm okay with, but heavier than that and I start to slow down too much, especially in doubles defence.

The MX90 sounds like it would be worth a look for you.

Teddy, where do you think the MX90 sits in the Meteor range in terms of stiffness? My guess......

    MXJJS > MX80 > MX70=MX90 > MX60

    Playability?

    MX60 > MX90 > MX70 > MXJJS=MX80

    :D :)

Havent played with MX60 n MX70, so would have to take those two out of the equation. As I recall,

    Stiffness:
    MX80 > half notch > MX-JJS > 1-1.5 notch > MX90

    Playability:
    MX-JJS > MX90 > MX80

Among those three, would favour MX-JJS. Personally, even the JJS proves a little too stiff for my game. Hence, MX80 is surely too stiff for me. And MX90 is too flex. Between the 90 n 80 though, would rather go for the 90.

How does the stiffness of the MX80 and JJS compare with a VTZF? I haven't tried any of the meteors so I think that's the only comparison which I can get an understanding of how stiff these racquets are.

From my experience with them, without a doubt the stiffness is

    MX80 >> MXJJS > MX70 > MX90 > MX60

Imo, if u've tried TK-9ooo n mesmerised by it then u probably wont think much of MX90... it just felt too whippy n light-headed.

This is the problem with the TK9000: ruins every other racket.

If the MX90 is too whippy n light-headed, I wonder how LYD, YYS, KSH, etc can play with a BS12... ;)

Nah, maybe for you , but for me and those with wimpier wrists who don't play with ZM62 @ 31 lbs(!), we depend on racket head speed to generate power. And also to have a reasonably good defence. :)

I'd agree with that order but probably with the difference like this instead.

    MX80 > MXJJS > MX70 > MX90 >> MX60

Thought u knew as to HOW they could play with BS12s...KRP...modified...!?
    ( ^.^)

On a serious note, MX90 has a slimmer shaft. That with a slight head heavy bp, it just doesnt cut it with me...

According to Mark and Paul who strung for the Victor team at AE, the BS12 they came across were all regular code, nothing KRP or anything special.

Did you get a chance to bend any of those BS12 with your hand to see if they're the same flex as the regular versions?
