just wondering, has anyone with the MX JJS experienced frequent string breaks near the top of the racquet (10-12 position)?

or am i just having some really bad luck with mishits or stringer .... >.<

it happened 2 in a row now within 2 weeks. I play roughly 10-12 hours a week.

The reason im asking cuz normally my string (on other racquets) starts to fray all over the sweetspot and pops weeks later (same amount of play time, same tension on other racquets) where it frays in the middle.

At first i thought it was the delicate 66UM, then i switched to 80 <--- lasted even less, maybe 5-6 hours

It happened to me earlier this year.. I strung my jjs almost three times in less than 3 months. It is definitely not normal. After switching to a different stringer, I got all of jjs grommets replaced with new ones. After that, no more sudden string of death. You might want to get your stringer to change your grommets (after multiple string jobs, grommets are subjected to wear and tire.

The Meteor pattern is notoriously bad for string breakage at the top of the racket - the top cross is very low.

Ask your stringer to add an extra cross at the top - there is room.

arhhhh, thanks Mark. thats must be it. I thought i should hear from someone who knows stringing.

Will meet up with my stringer tonight :)

Warlock86: thanks man, its a brand new racquet so it was the first 2 string jobs. I've been checking the grommets after reading your post. Don't see anything unusual ...

That's how I used to do mine, always put the extra top in.

Mark and dbswanaea, do you guys mind showing one of the string job on mx series? I am curious on how does the extra one string across would look on your rackets.

This is how my MXJJS was strung by directbadminton when I purchased it.

There you go - from the lowest top cross on the market, to the highest;).

Much better than the recommended first top cross.

arh.... thanks so much guys. I was telling my stringer to put an extra cross on top and he said its no more room (since I cut out the broken string immediately). And i don't know how to to string so who am i to argue otherwise.

I will show him this photo for the next string job then. Oh well. Expect this one to go in another week or so ......

The MX pattern wasn't designed for that cross... but there is room:).

When I was stringing it I always asked myself "do I really want my mains exposed like that?", I could never answer "yes".

The TK pattern isn't much better... but there's nothing that can be done about it - only one hole big enough for the knot.

Incredibly, I haven't bust any of mine. Yet.

I don't really hit that part of the string bed with the tk as much as I did with the jjs.

oh dear, just when i thought, ok, maybe once i get the TK, i won't have to deal with this problem too much. lolz. Right now the JJS is my main sword. And none of my other racquets have this problem. Well, at least i know this before getting another 1-2 JJS.

No problems for me on my JJS or any meteor using a regular stringing pattern. Although recently I have been stringing similar to dbswansea with an extra cross on the top ever since I bought one off him with that pattern and I quite like it now

Forgot to mention that this is stringing in the 26-30lbs range.

Yep, I've still got the NS880ZTi on it that you gave me, although it will break soon but I like the string :D

I use the JJS exclusively (own 4). use the stock grommets strung at 25 x 27.5 lbs.
Like Mark and dwswansea mentioned before, there is room to add a top cross. Your stringer should be able to do this.

I guess your purpose is for some piece of mind and to save money right? If you use thin string at high tension, mishits at the top of the frame usually will lead to string breakage.

Although it's impossible to avoid, with practice you should be hitting the sweet spot with more consistency on any racket.

just got my racquet back, im screwed (for the third time) ....... >.<

haizz........anyway, showed my stringer the photo with an extra cross on top. He said he will try next time. Mentioning something about making the hole bigger.

Finger crossed this is gonna last me longer.

Though its my fault that i mishit the top part of the string bed, this happens when i play with stronger opponent when his clear is so powerful and fast, caught me on surprise and by trying to clear back, i mishit the top. Well, next time i will just let it go then lolz.
