Sorry if this posts in the wrong forum or been discussed before. Did a search.

I have two pairs of Yonex shoes and they both have holes on them. No, not the ones where you place your feet in. I am a right footy and i tend to drag my left feet(or so been told) thus it creates scars on top, right front of my left shoe. I glanced around and i noticed most of my friends shoes have holes and cratches on the same spot. Is it because of laziness? I didn't even know i did it during the games.

    Do you have this problem?

Everyone I know has those holes (I know I do). It has to do with how you drag your left foot when you recieve shots if you're a righty I think.

You can put sticky tape or sth like plaster there so your shoes could last longer. Works 4 me.

Almost all right handed player has your problem.
I just use some stick tape to protect that position before I use that shoes

Some trainers are more prone to it than others though, that's why you see people with what looks like a new shoe and an old one held together with duck tape.

Remember to only put on the hole because if you wrap the tape round the shoe the shoe will have no grip where the tape is on the sole so it will becoame very slippery and dangerous.

A good idea is to put some kind of padding in the shoe so that when you drag you don't get a friction burn because the tape is not very thick (Ouch) :(

I can run through a pair in like 6 month. Yonex shoes are not very resistant (for me at least). Also where I train the floor is like in rubber so it is even worse. You can go to the place where they repare shoes (cordonnier in french) and they will make them like new.

    have a nice day

Still cannot find a valid explanation to this.

Since i started playing, all my yonex shoes always have this roundish shape abrasion on my front inner side of the left shoe. Most of the shoes end up getting a hole there even when the rest of the parts of the shoe are still ok.

Why does this happen? Some say it is when i lunge forward on my right leg, my inner side of my left shoe rubs against the court. But how come it is roundish in shape and below the abrasion patch, there is no damage.

Some say it is due to constant flexing of the leather at that position. How come it does not happen on my right shoe then?

I just bought a brand new mizuno shoes. After just 2 sessions of total 4 hrs of play, there is already this circular abrasion as shown in the 2 pics attached. The leather upper coat has gone off already. The rest of the shoe is 9.9/10 mint condition except that round shape.

Am concerned about this coz it is brand new shoe and thinking of how i can help to lessen this damage, thinking of putting some shoe whitener on it to cover it up. or maybe stick some leather to protect it?

I am sure most of the bfers encounter such phenomenon, any suggestions?

    Thanks

I used to have a similar problem more than a year ago. having to buy a new pair of shoes every few months. I then had my feet examined and found out that I had flat foot on one foot and over pronation on both feet. I then had custom make foot orthoses in March 2003, and I am still using my 18-months old badminton shoes which still look like they are good for a couple of years. The savings on badminton shoes after I started using the orthoses have, by now, more than paid for my the two pairs of foot orthoses.

This is completely normal, and just shows that you are doing your deep lunges right. :)

I always put a piece of woven or gaffa tape over that spot. Then the tape takes the wear instead of the shoe. Replace the tape when it gets too worn.

I've seen a lot of other players taping their left shoe like this. It really increases the life of the shoe.

Shoes examination to see whether player's footwork

I come across a video which explained that the player's shoes were examined after they were worn out. Two places were examined, the side and the sole of the shoes. This is to judge whether the player is using the correct footwork during playing.

It's always the rounded part of the outside of the ball of your foot that potrudes the most so it's always in the same area.

Do you not feel your foot impacting and then sliding on the court, do you not get blisters from this?

    that's a real good point.

ie. the heel of the racket foot and the toe area of the non-racket foot should be the most worn places of a pair of badminton shoes.

A picture of how well Duck tape protects you badminton shoe. As you can see the rest of the shoe has worn away leaving the duck tape ;)

I've seen other sorts of duct/gaffa tape that has a more pronounce weave showing, so maybe duck and duct/gaffa are not the same thing.
