Hi ive always used a yonex slow shuttle. This wasnt a planned choice they were just the cheapest. Tonight i played with a medium again a yonex. I think i enjoyed the faster game. I felt they reacted differently. My question is why the different speeds? I have only noticed slow, medium and fast. Not sure if there is others until going to feathers. To be honest i expect i will always play with plastic. I am just after a better understanding of shuttles. Thanks
Different speeds are for different temperatures. In cold climates, the shuttles fly slower, so a faster shuttle is needed so the flight isn't changed.

I agree with leongwaipak, at this time of year, I've been using the red shuttles. During the summer I use the blues. Depending on how well heated your badminton hall is (one of my mine is very cold, the other is very warm) your mileage may vary.
I will start with the blues as i noticed a difference already. Hopefully down the line i can gauge if reds are needed. One other question what are all the different types about? I see there are 300, 350, 2000 etc. however i cant find a good reference to explain. Thanks guys i do appreciate the info i am being given.
The flight path is slightly different between each type. I haven't had the opportunity to try them in quite some time, but the Mavis 2000 supposedly have the best trajectory of a plastic shuttle - but tend to cost more. One thing to be aware of is the lighting at the hall you play in. Some people prefer to use yellow shuttles if the lights are quite bright as it helps you see the shuttle. The places I buy from rarely stock Mavis 2000 in yellow, so I tend to stick to 300s. If I'm playing 'decent games' I use feathers anyway. I only use plastics for silly games, so I'm not too dependent on the quality. Honestly, I find the game more fun with feathers. It's more satisfying and the shots feel better.
I have bought the 300 today in yellow. The glare is terrible where i play. There are times i completly lose the shuttle with the white ones. I have used these once and enjoyed the game more. It was alot faster and not so much effort needed. Found the accuracy alot better to because of not having to put so much strength behind each shot. I am hoping it helps improve my game now i can see the shuttle and hopefully using the correct speed.

I will do i could only find the 300 local today just so i have something that resembles suitable. When i have more time i can pop to town and try a sports shop there if not there on ebay. Thanks again for your help.
You're in the UK right? I found my local shop is a bit expensive for plastics (£12 for a tube of 6) - and that depends on whatever they're stocking. I ordered my last set online from DirectBadminton and got 2 tubes for that money.

I paid AUD18 per half dozen for Mavis 2000 tube which equates to ten pounds according Google. Plus delivery Mavis 2000 last much better than the Mavis 500 we were previously using. The 2000 skirt holds together well but will fray at the ends. Not unusual to get eight games plus from one Mavis 2000 shuttle. 500s will break down the skirt (from shuttle head towards the ends) and it won't hold its aerodynamics after that. I have not used the 350s or 370s but I'll assume they're not as good as the 500s and would be just as fragile.
I recently bought slow yonex shuttles. I am at 7,000 elevation and was told to buy the slow ones because of the altitude, this correct? I'm a beginner and would like to know the difference between plastic and feather shuttles?
