(Note that this is a different tournament from "Badminton Asia Team Championships 2015".)

    Date: 21st to 26th April 2015
    Venue: Wuhan, China
    Prize Money: US$200,000
    http://badmintonasia.org/2014/12/badminton-asia-championships-2015/

    The final eligibility list: http://badmintonasia.org/wp-content...ble_Players_List_PHASE-2_16th-March-2015.xlsx

    Tournament Prospectus: http://badmintonasia.org/wp-content...ampionships-2015_Prospectus_14th-Jan-2015.pdf

    Also note that:

    • The member BA's will finalize their entry list on this Friday, March 20.
    • It follows the eligibility rules similar to the World Championships but with mandatory participation requirement similar to SSP.
    • This is the last tournament whose ranking points will count towards World Championships eligibility.
    • By BWF rule, this is Grand Prix Gold level tournament. However, the tournament prospectus says "Graded as BWF World Super Serious Level". Not sure what the real story is.

It was upgraded by BWF to SS level a few months ago.

That would make sense. Points from Asia Championships are a lot harder to earn than those from European Championships.

BWF seems to be better run since Hoyer was elected.

Case in point: Korea Open is no longer played when it's minus 10 degree there.

From the eligible player list, it's like mini World Championships minus Euro powerhouse Denmark. BAC is trying to upgrade its status as one of prestigious tournament, the best of Asia should take part to become Asian Champion.

Hopefully, one day, it will have as much ranking points as SSP.

Although the final confirmation is still a couple days away, there are already some interesting developments in the final eligibility list:

TQ/ZYL is out. MJ/TYT is in. The former signals that ZYL is indeed getting out oWD. The latter seems for getting TYT more experience and BYX/TYT more notional points for better seeding for their Olympic qualifcation.

Other notable Absentees: Tago, Fernaldi/Kido, top two Korean WD pairs (disbanded). Other than Tago (not in top 10), the other absentees will get fined for not participating.

PS: would admin/mod please remove "Team" from the thread title? I made a mistake originally. I updated the message title but the thread name did not change.

Yup, wishing it will be realized but not bad for now that BAC has SS level.

The partnership is ended since Fernaldi joined national squad (Pelatnas) and paired with Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.

Wow is certainly feel that Gideon Markus Fernaldi forms a very strong partnership with Markis Kido and both of them really played very well together on the court. I think this is indeed a very good and ideal partnership. Why spilt them up? I think this is purely a waste for the Indonesian players. No offence here but just my personal view.

    I personally enjoyed fernaldi/Kevin more..
The possible reason can be the Kevin(I really find him interesting on court)

To make up with the NT. Gideon is a player who mainly works hard, because his talent is smaller than others. He was kicked out of the national team as he wasn't good enough but then formed the partnership with Kido which brought him to another level.

Kido is aging and not getting any younger, plus Gideon is called up again to the national team to pair with Kevin. I think PBSI is trying new combinations, and Gideon Kevin is an all round one. They're a young pair and will be exciting to watch, particularly because Kevin seems too keen to go for spectacular shots. That;s why Gideon is paired up with Kevin. a hardworking and Talent combination.

and so far they've reached far into the tourney's they got into

In that case, hope Sun Yu can replace Liu Xin.

LYB Wants At Least Three Golds

During the news conference for the Asian Championships, LYB said a couple interesting things:

    1. the emphasis now is on showing the best mental attitude (rather than winning)
    2. due to a log jam of older players, the development of younger players had been constrained. However, it is still possible for the younger players to go to Rio
Apparently, in addition to hosting the upcoming Asia Championships, WuHan will also host the 2016 Asia Championships which will be crucial to many player's Olympic dream.

Don't see that chance for youngster in MS, two Rio spots very most likely will be sealed by Chen L and Lin D unless one of them suffers heavily injured.

So Wuhan will host BAC in two consecutive editions, 2015 & 2016.

Liu Xin's name is still in it. I was hoping for Sun Yu to replace her.

Both Chen Long and Lin Dan have very easy path en route to quarterfinal.
