Since everyone keeps telling me that feather shuttlecocks are so much better than plastic I want to buy some to try them out. Which shuttlecocks can you recommend? I was thinking about Yonex AS 10/20 because they're often the only ones avaible directly in stores. But which speed should I take? Some say that feather shuttlecocks are faster than plastic, some say they are slower.... Thanks in advance ;)

    Take AS 30 speed 3

    (speed 3 = normal speed)

AS 10 and 20 you can only use for training since they'll get demaged pretty quickly.

Plastic birds are really bad. I feel they are always too heavy. I use plastic birds for kids. Even they tell me they prefer the feather bird. Try other brands of birds...Yonex seldom gives best value but is almost always a quality product.

I highly recommend the Hero No.1s, if your store carries them. They are equivalent to Yonex AS-50s. If your store doesnt carry Heros (they are a fairly new brand) try out the Hang Yu No.1s. These shuttles are the best bang for your buck and they usually go for $18-20 depending on where you live. Here are my recommendations in order of personal preference. (Preference only)

    1. Yonex AS-40
    2. Hero No.1
    3. Hang Yu No.1
    4. Victor Green
    5. Aeroplane Blacks

As for speed, go with 78 grain... I find them to be the best performing weight :)

    Speed depends on location.

In the south of England, 78s came back into the correct speed about a month ago.

(That's at roughly sea level, at about 10C)

With regards to speed of plastic versus feather, I find that:
Plastic speed is 1 lower than feather speed

A 'Fast' Mavis 300 felt around the same speed as an AS30 at speed 78.
A 'Medium' feels slow to me.

The trajectory of the shuttle is different. Feathers fly higher, plastics fly flatter. The comment on weight is pretty apt too, plastic shuttles tend to be heavier to get the extra distance.

I agree, it depends largely on your climate, but i found that 78s seem to be the most accomodating to my climate, as well as others.

As-10 is relatively heavy feeling shuttle in feathers i.e it flies slow for the shot . Ask your mates what speed they use and get AS-10 a speed higher . I find As-10 a good bang for buck shuttle .
