You should use all grips rather than just one grip. It depends on the situation, a grip is more suitable for one situation but isn't suitable for another.

I know there are old teachings that say Panhandle grip is bad and you should never use it, but nowadays it is accepted that the panhandle grip is best for certain situations.

    You might be surprised. :)

I don't cover it in that article, which is basically right but a bit "Badminton England text book" (hey, I wrote it 7 years ago!). But a partial panhandle is good for many forehand net shots.

There's more to it than that, though. If I just say, "use a panhandle grip for net shots", then most players will get it wrong. It's not just about the angle of the grip, but also about the process of changing grip and how you hold it in the fingers. It doesn't really feel like a panhandle grip.

I look forwards to covering this properly. And hopefully not getting blasted too much. :D

In the meantime, I fall back on my general recommendation: allow yourself to experiment. Try to choose a grip that allows you to make contact at the desired point (instead of letting the shuttle drop), and place the shuttle where you want it. Be flexible with your grips.

Maybe. It depends on what shot you're using it for.

You also need a balance between accuracy and power. For example, a panhandle grip might give you a very accurate smash, but you would be missing out on a lot of power.

Whereas for a forehand net lift, taken early, a (partial) panhandle grip can improve your accuracy. In this situation, power is much less of a concern.
