Just thought I'd share how I do my tie off knots and also a reference for those who just started stringing and want to know what a proper knot should look like.

Tie off knots I do are called Toshi knots.
Starting knots are a Toshi Knot + a special wrap around

Its probably the macro from the camera, it looks decent size and just enough to not let it slip

I'll have to give this Toshi a go - it looks like just a Parnell with a double-through at the end.

I might try the Toshi knot and then do a Parnell knot next to it unless Mark A beats me to it. But I really like my set up with a starting knot + 3 Parnell knots. I'm biased towards smaller knots :p Still good to have a larger knot in your repertoire though.

I'll probably give this knot a try too. I normally use Parnell knots for tie offs. Mods can we make a sticky of this thread and aggregate ALL knots in one handy place. Let me kick it off with the ones I've learned from all you experts.

    Pro/Parnell Knot:

    Starting knot used by @Mark A & @johnlowe88:

My original starting knot (I add one more loop):

I gave the Toshi a go, but I must have cocked it up... it needs diagramming, really:).

In the meantime, I added another loop to my double-Parnell, and it worked:

But you pretty much need three hands for it - three loops, all needing tightening in order:D.

If even you cocked it up, that makes me feel better.

I was trying to use it from my very first stringing job, and I just couldn't get it right.

While Alan explains it carefully in his video, it's just too hard for me to tell exactly what's going on. It needs a diagram.

Mind video'ing this for us Mark A?

I use the parnell too however it doesn't look that "bulky" compared to you.
    :crying:

This video from youtube I believe is someone doing the Toshi but doesn't do it as nicely as AK does. It is a lot easier to follow too.

Amazingly, that video made the Toshi absolutely clear... but I still prefer mine;).

Mine is a Parnell through a Parnell through a Parnell, so a normal Parnell will look like a grain of sand in comparison. I've no way of videoing it, but I can do a step-by-step picture guide next time I send a racket through.

I could video and talk and describe how I do it, the problem is I first need to set up the camera and it will be all good.

OK - it's taken me a fair few tries to nail this one, but I think I'm going to run with it for a while. It's just as big as mine, but easier to get tighter because it's not pulling onto mulitple loops.

Weirdly, I can hear Alan's "one loop... two loops..." in my head every time:D.

I'm going to try this again based on your recommendation. Even if it means not being able to get Alan's soothing voice out my head. ;)

Will you be using it for tie-off knots as well, or just for the cross starting knot?

It's definitely a good tie-off, but it might not be big enough for a starter. I'm one-pieceing all my stuff lately, so the starter test will have to wait.

This is by far the better angle for videoing:
