What I got from this article is that the national team has a sponsoring contract (for the Sudirman Cup I think) with a company that is in competition to the sponsor of the players.

You are correct phili. What seems to have happened is that they signed individual sponsoring contracts with a competitor of the national team sponsor. However by doing that they broke the collective agreement. News is that they have offered to play Sudirman Cup for free with no sponsor on the shirts and pay a compensation. They know that what they did was wrong but is hasn't been possible to reach a settlement.

They will no longer practice with the national team.

They won't be supported by the danish badminton federation.

Their individual agreement with the national team will be terminated (???)

    They won't play Sudirman Cup.

It seems that the shirt sponsorship was for Sudirman Cup only.

Same message is on Mathias Boe and Carsten's FB page.

It's very confusing. Maybe Denmark didn't realise these players are already sponsored by a biscuit company? (Yeah, right). Or have I got my timelines wrong??

That's really unfortunate, shame on Danisa for bringing a sport team into their battle in such a way, and shame on Badminton Denmark for going for it. Badminton Denmark must be really stupid or really hard up for cash. And then cutting their funding after making such a decision, I am surprised how calm that facebook post is

I'm betting that the collective agreement with the national team says that they can't sign individual sponsorships that restricts who Badminton Denmark can use as a sponsor.

DBA did that on purpose just to kick these players out? (I am sure the association realized that).

    Like that part. :)

Yup. Amazing plain and factual post. Seems a harsh decision by Team Denmark.

Yeah I am certain too, I remember there was a big kerfuffle even when they wanted to earn cash at IBL aswell. But I thought the players had this sponsorship for a while, not like they are trying to pull a fast one. The association should only be there to support the players and stay afloat, no need for this type of shenanigans.

My guess is that neither party saw this coming and now they are both bound by their contracts. I think the sponsors could make this problem go away fast if they wanted to.

Possibly but it wouldn't explain why the players get kicked off the team totally even after the Sudirman Cup finishes.

    It doesn't sound quite right...

And Danisa just came in a few months ago?

    isn't that right?

Will they be allowed to take part in the SS events if they are no longer with the Danish National team?
Anyway I just don't see what good will it have for Danish badminton federation to fire the world #s mens doubles pair, #2 mixed doubles pair and #5 ladies doubles pair. They are the ones who with most TV air time
