Where's Ma Jin? You can't be completely ruling her out, can you?

Anyway I do agree, there's so many good pairing that it's a tough choice for the coaches.

Until now, CHN is still trying different WD combos, none of the pairing is firm up yet. Have to wait a few months for the picture to become clearer.

As there are only two OG spots per event, CHN has to ensure only the two very best players/pairs in each discipline get selected.

For the time being, I'm more inclined to select 1) ZYL/WXL and 2) BYX/TYT or MJ/TYT or even YY/TYT.

I'll probably go with BYX/TYT at the moment.

The team may have given up on XC/MJ for Rio. BYX/LC is now on track to be the 2nd XD pair for Rio. So BYX may be held back from WD.

Unless they botch the next two tournaments, MJ/TYT seems the team's choice for Rio.

Very intriguing for the 2nd spot is ODN/YXH. They play a totally different game from other pairs. If they can prove themselves after being studied, they will lock up the second spot with their performance on court. Interestingly, they were not entered into Australian Open or Indonesia Open. But they stand a good chance to play in the World Championships to make their case.

Due to ZYL's XD Gold duty and WXL's suspect condition, WXL/ZYL will only be the insurance policy at this point.

The Twins and whatever pairings with ZQX and TJH are not without their chances, but only if the above pairs stumble.

Perhaps YY/WXL will get a spot also. Somehow LYB owe them on that regard.

I think LC/BYX with ZN/ZYL for XD, don't think ZYL will double up.

On that basis I hope for YY/WXL and MJ/TYT. I am very interested to see TQ/TJH also.

Yu Yang's statement for prefering TYT was very very direct though

Yes, YY's statement was unusual. Maybe coaches/management gave their blessing already?

Or maybe YY has realised that MJ also wants to play with TYT, and YY is launching a preemptive strike?

true. MJ/TYT are going to Australia Open and Indonesia Open. Both events have huge prizes (ie, 750k and 800k respectively)!!

If the pair win both, i guess their chances of going to Rio are very high.

It seems to me that Tang Yuanting will be going to Rio. Question is, who will be her partner.

Assuming that Bao Yixin and Zhao Yunlei won't be playing in two events, that leaves the rest of the WD players to be her partner.

Ma Jin and Yu Yang are two possibilities since both have partnered with her before. I think Ma Jin could possibly be her partner because of her strong front court coverage, which is very advantageous to Tan Yuanting as her back court play is strong.

Other pairs could be the Luo twins, provided their style changes a little. Ou Dongni/Yu Xiaohan may be another possible pair, but it depends on how well they are faring. A random pair might be Wang Xiaoli/Tang Jinhua.

ODN/YXH should also be in the running and the Luo twins too, almost slip off my mind. In WD, CHN is spoilt for choice, a headache that is an enviable luxury for LYB and coaches.

    1) ZYL/WXL
    2) BYX/TYT

I can't see any other player topping those 4. They are clearly at the top right now. I feel sorry for YY and TQ, but they haven't been able to keep up their level.

What is telling is that at the Sudirman Cup QF with GER, the WD combo shown in the lineup was Yu Yang/Tang Yuanting.

since it is very likely that Zhang Nan will double up in XD and MD, so the chances of ZYL doubling up in XD and WD is slim.

Plus, ZYL is not young anymore. It's too much risk for her to maintain high WRs (ie within top 4) in two disciplines for the entire qualification period.

At most, I think ZYL (perhaps with TQ) will be the backup pair, staying within top 10 perhaps, just in case the top two pairs stumble.

As for who will partner with TYT, either MJ or BYX would do. YY's recent statement suggests that coaches have not made up their mind yet. MJ is definitely ditching XC, so she definitely needs TYT for WD. If BYX goes with LC for XD, i think LYB will let BYX plays in two disciples since she is still young.

I don't think LYB owes YY anything. YY won gold in 2008 already. YY and LYB are even.

TYT is a lovely girl; let's hope she will find a good partner and WIN. We are about to witness the meteoric rise of TYT in the next 12 months, ala LYR's rise in 2012.

“With ten days to go for the Sudirman Cup, Zhang Nan fell sick and couldn’t practice. He recovered just before the event. Tang Yuanting is a very comprehensive player; she’s good in attack and defence and can combine with anyone. She’s very young and we would like to give more opportunities to our young players. Tang has already got experience with different partners and I won’t be surprised if she wins a medal at the Rio Olympics.”

This must be a confirmation that TYT will be going in the olympics.

Hoprefully China will let forget Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli
They are old now, let Tang Yuanting play with younger player such as Bao Yixin.
If not i much prefer Ma Jin than Yu Yang.. Yu Yang already old...
Furthermore Tang Yuanting is pleasant looking, she should wear skirt while playing. Yu Yang is like a man, tomboy who always wearing pants...Not good for badminton progress in the eyes of the world ;)
