Dear All, I am wondering if anybody know anything about any Catorgerised tournaments which are held in France, Belgium or Holland. I think the Badminton clubs hold tournaments in which they are catorgerised into different level of play. (Social, Club, County, National - Cat:A, B, C, D) If so could you please inform me where and when they are and contacts to find out further information. Many Thanks Johnl
For France, the different series are : Elite (~top 50 in MS) A (national level) B C D E NC (= Non Classed) next year, a new serie (F) will be added between E and NC I don't know how to give you any accurate level equivalence with other countries however...

Hi johnl I'm based in Suffolk. So, not too far for Birmingham. Not a youngster anymore I'm afraid. I play in the Suffolk County Vets set up Also, play league Div 1 and 2 ( Men's A and B ) for two or three local clubs in the Bury, Cambridge and Ipswich leagues. I liked what the guy from Badminton.me had to say about the French set up having more intermediate tournaments. I want to do some satellite tournaments next season. Trouble is there are guys taking part who are pushing for UK ranking points. I think it would be good if we had more tournaments aimed at league standard players. The site that skates gave you is a good site to explain how french tournaments work. Briefly, players are placed in separate draws according to their ranking, so in the end there will be a winner in NC, a winner in E, a winner in D, etc... The advantage is that everyone can play at his level and have chances of winning (that's the theory at least). If you want to know about tournament dates, a good site is http://badidonk.com/. About the ranking, every serie is divided in "1" and "2", "1" being stronger than "2", so this means an E1 is supposed to be better than an E2 for example. You have a different ranking in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles so your ranking is given in three parts, for example E1/D2/E2. All official matches give points for an official ranking, which is the same one from the very beginner to the international players, this ranking is updated every week and can be found on http://www.ffba.net/.(you can access complete results of any tournament anywhere in France, or the complete results of any player in the twelve last months). For example, type "Simpson, Ian" (that's me! ) in the box and it will give you all my results within the last twelve months (not so good actually ), and my official ranking which is now C1/B2/C2. Well, I tried to explain quickly the french system but don't hesitate if you have any questions about how it works, I'm quite into it...
i am so envious of your system...even though i am not that good, it would be great to be able to play in official tournaments and be ranked....and of course have different levels of play oh well
Tournaments in France SheldonZang I just started playing a few games in the Cambs league toward the end of this season for Ely Victoria and Littleport. I have been mainly playing in the Ipswich, Bury and Newmarket leagues. I was thinking about checking out Hurst next season. ( is that where you play?) One of their players ( Tom? ) took part in a LIBA Coaching course last year and spoke highly of the club. You seemed quite interested in johnl's and seven's info about playing in a tournament in France. I think that would be a great experience. Why not give it a go? heh... a level exams coming up so prob no france trip yet i've looked at the LIBA website, nice design, but no details on particular coures yet, but obviously 2004 is short....a full program in 2005. i don't play in the league in cambidge/newmarket hoping to play in uni, and play in the uni structure instead. if that doesn't work out, prob try some clubs
