Hy here in Germany ,BG 85 is no longer available but BG 80 is. Could someone tell me the difference please. The specs looks very similar. thank you
BG 85 is just a little bit thinner, 1 mm to be exact. BG 80 is meant for offensive player, and 85 is more towards defense.
Both BG80 and BG85 have similar repulsion power. However, BG85 is better than BG80 in control and shock absorption. BG80 has a softer feel than BG85. BG80 is suitable for hard hitters who want repulsion power. BG85 are for control players who also seek high repulsion power. BG80 is slightly more durable.
85 is not 1 mm thinner, 0.01 mm thinner mayber. If it was 1 mm thinner it would have negative thickness ;P
What i think is BG80 lacks feel compared to bg85 due to its thicker diameter. I think the vectran thinngy works best with thinner diameter, more responsive and explosive on touch.
cooler.... i wonder if you can devise an experiment to compare different string similar in idea to the measurements you did for rackets? that would be quite valuable for badminton fans....
Does bg88ti have vectran? Never had the privilege on setting my eyes on it, hope one day i will have a chance to try it i hate ti string, but i heard bg88ti is a special ti string and very good.
I dont think measuring some physical properties of badminton strings would help an user in choosing the desire string because 1. string is more dynamically dependent than a 'rigid' racket so performance is very dependent on how a string is used. 2. temperature and humidity vary greatly among places where BF's reside. What i measure within my ambient condition may not indicative how the string will perform in say, humid malaysia. 3. there are lot more variables that is needed to describe a particular string and all these variables may overwhelm or cloud the overall conclusion of the string. 4. string performance is very subjective (familarity) to a point that it can override any technical advantage of a different string. 6. strings are relatively lot cheaper than rackets so trying out different string is feasible as compared having to buying many rackets to try out. 7. string performance is also somewhat tie to tension and racket used. A 'soft string' may work well with one racket at one particular tension for a B- player but may not 'feel right' for a A- player, with different tension and different racket. A real life analogy is car tires. A 'V' rated tire with 65 profile tells very little how that tire will perform because its performance is tied to what car (weight/suspension) is used, the road surface, its speed. A car(engine, transmission, suspension, radio, etc), like a racket, is more predictable,relatively speaking. car=racket tire/wheel=string road=shuttle Of course, string characteristic can be measured(with sophisicated instruments) but to be useful, lots of parameters must be taken, and some of these parameters are not easily comprehended (no offense intended) by average users.

Ok BG 85 seems to be a great string but with a lack in durability. Will lower String (18lbs)tension increase durability? May its a stupid question but I've no eperienced with thin Strings. thanks

Cooler, I got a new idea! (Not necessary a good idea) Perhaps we can use a machine with two ends, and we can tide a string in between two ends. Like: O-------------O** ** is like a handle Then, can you measure the max tension the string can stand before breakage?? It would be nice to run this test on all current strings, so we know the general idea of the max. tension. I know there are tons of factors will affect the performance, but at least, you live in Canada, which already has severe weather with snows, so it could be the worst condition for the strings already p). The results should be a very good reference though
difference in frequency of changing car, racket, strings, tires, grips, rims, etc does not alter the validity of the comparion of these two models.
