Should the Olympics have a team event for badminton also?

I have for years been feeling that the Olympics apart from it being very prestigious and not held very often is inferior to the other high profile badminton tournaments in its format. All the other Games (Asian, SEA, etc.) consists of a team event and an individual event. Team events usually bring lots of excitement and great matches.

There are too many good players who cant participate in OG because of the rules, also having group play in the individual event is stupid imo, look what happened in London. The players can only partly be blamed, the format with group play was stupid in the first place.

Anyway my idea is to include a team event and make the individual event a straght knock-out contest, that will save some time which can be used for the team event.

My idea is to have the 8 highest ranked countries entered into the team event which will be a straight knock-out contest. Either there can be a mens and womens team event in best out of 5 matches (my preferred idea) or only a mixed team event also best out of five.

The whole team competition will take 3 days only, day 1 QF, day 2 SF, day 3 Final + bronze match.

    Is this a good idea?

Yes, SEA Games and Asian Games have them, so why not?

Maybe Asians have a different opinion on that, but for me (as a European), there's nothing more boring than a mixed team event. China's dominance is just too overwhelming... They win it anyway...

If you watch the 2014 Thomas Cup, that is truly amazing.

Last Olympic China won 5 gold in badminton and 4 gold in table tennis, the maximum. 2 more medals in badminton?

What is the problem if China wins? At least there will be more good matches to watch and upsets can always happen.

For badminton lovers, there should be 8 gold medals to be awarded in Olympic, MS, WS, XD, MD, WD,MEN team, WOMAN team and MIXED team. Will it happen? It won't. Same can be said with table tennis, tennis or golf.
