Sneak peek at how rich the players are :

    Lee Chong Wei

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OorPTsTrtok

dayumm those cars lineup, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Bentleys, Rolls Royce :p

    Lin Dan

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S7x7U6OFnU

could spot LD having Porsche, Range Rover and Audi A8 (parked at parent's house)

    Taufik Hidayat

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u4V6lJtzF8

10:15 Taufik's crib with Ferrari and Range Rover, also his state-of-the-art million dollars badminton academy Taufik Hidayat Arena

I guess badminton superstars these days are outrageously rich unlike the previous eras, which could be a motivation for aspiring players to reach to the top and earn from endorsement, sponsorship, prize money, commercials, contracts, salary, bonuses, athlete supports or whatever source of income they are getting from ^^

Top two most paid Badminton players according to me
    1)Lin Dan
    2)Saina Nehwal

especially LD has so many international companies with him, hard to believe he is second.

on the other side LCW's very hardworking and industrious, off court corporate deals just as LD, sponsorship and endorsements, national team salary and support, accumulated prize money. The title Datuk also comes with monthly monetary award from Malaysian gov. LD would take complete break off badminton on and off court for long period while LCW competing regulerly.

I guess the source's Forbes, so it might be amassed wealth (net worth). ^^

not sure about Yao Ming, but it would take Yonex to compete with Li Ning in China lol ^^

Not to take anything away from their achievements, but how many of those were in sports with more than one discipline, .e.g swimming, gymnastics. Therefore it is technically easier to get more than one medal in one Olympics.

The four legends and THE legend^^

well the four legends' success could definitely be a motivation for young aspiring players, if they could reach to the top their hard work will definitely be paid off (handsomely:p). It's a lot of hardwork, blood, sweat & tears, that they've been through until this stage and being about similar age to TH,LD,LCW I could say they are VERY well off and outrageously successful for people my age.

Well Li Ning is as big in China as Sachin is in India, Roger in Switzerland and Tiger Woods in USA. probably the biggest Chinese athlete of all time
