ShaneO. thanks for letting me know. Janet and I went there yesterday around 1pm and was surprised to see only 6 (out of 8) courts were occupied and a few were playing singles. a year or two back, Gunn was always jam packed with people and we often had to wait for 2-3 games to get on court. in fact, i don't think i have ever seen Gunn this empty before. despite that, a couple of old frirends were there and we played for 3-4 hours non-stop!! needless to say, i was quite tired but quite satisfied at the end of day!
Hello, Oh really? So, the only places to play will be Sunnyvale Rec Center, Bintang, and San Jose State University? I got the schedule for Sunnyvale Rec Center but do you know Bintang and SJSU? Thanks Frank
Gunn Closed, most likely permanently Hi folks - bearing bad news here. At the end of June, Gunn High School doubled their gym rental fees. Because of this, the Palo Alto Recreation Department is no longer able to afford renting the place for open gym. They're looking into some other alternatives, including the possibility of Terman. Unfortunately though, we will not be returning to Gunn after the summer. There's a slight possibility that the club/team will rent out the gym instead, but we won't know about that until September. I'll try to keep people posted. Marc (guy that runs the Gunn gym on Sundays)
Hi Marc, in that case, do you know if they (city of Palo Alto) will give refund to the people who already purchase the 10-pack pass? Thanks!
that's quite sad to see that the Gunn sunday open gym will be gone forever. i still remember back a few years ago, those days Gunn was one of the best place to go for badminton. we force ourselves out of bed on sunday just to make it to the gym at 12.30pm and then play till we drop at 6pm or sometimes even later than that when we made sure that we involved the person-in-charge in a long long 3 games doubles match. Gunn was always jammed packed then with ppl sitting all around the courtside waiting for their turns. we dropped by earlier on this year and there was quite a contrast. the gym was hardly filled and court times are easy to find. the most loathed waiting-list-clipboard wasn't even utilized. the place just felt empty and neglected. and now, it is over and we may not see the gym opening again, at least not under the same management.
