A prelude of Euro Superseries Tour

Thailand Open is back to BWF Grand Prix Gold circuit after cancelled last year due to political turmoil. It's strong line-up as several top ten alite members will coming to Thunder Dome also a string of upcoming players that we may watch for future years regularly.

Korean top-seed Son Wan Ho is pre tournament favourite, the former world #4 is trying to regain his best form after injury problem that caused him got early exit frequently at top tier tournaments. At last two superseries in Japan and Korea he lost to China two aces, Lin Dan and Chen Long respectively. Lee Hyun Il and second seed Hu Yun will be another top contenders, the Korean veteran Lee had collected two GP Gold titles in 2015. Interesting to follow the newcomers that may steal the spotlight, INA quartet of Mustofa-Christie-Ginting-Kholik, KOR Jeon HJ and CHN duo Lin GP-Shi YQ. Host Thailand will rely on their #1 Tanongsak and vast experienced Boonsak Ponsana to seek glory at homesoil.
R/64 highlights : Chong Wei Feng (MAS) v Simon Santoso (INA), Derek Wong Ziliang (SIN) v Huang Yuxiang (CHN)

Former world champion Ratchanok Intanon will lead home WS squad to challenge foreign participants, their arch-rival should coming from the in-form Korean lady Sung Ji Hyun who crowned KOR SS currently. Other player that should be watched here, Sun Yu and He Bingjiao alongside with Bae Yeon Ju who occassionally stunned higher-ranked player. In this year, Sung JH, Sun Y and He BJ as well grabbed GP Gold title in Mulheim An Der Ruhr, Basel and Changzhou respectively.
R/32 highlights : Sayaka Sato (JPN) v Nitchaon Jindapon (THA), Bae Yeon Ju (KOR) v Chen Yufei (CHN), Kaori Imabeppu (JPN) v Porntip Buranaprasertsuk (THA)

In the late withdrawal of two Korean MD pairs, 2014 world champion Ko SH/Shin BC and Kim GJ/Kim SR, SIN Open winner Pratama/Suwardi will be the frontrunner to top podium here. The underdogs Chinese juniors, Li JH/Liu YC and Huang KX/Zheng SW emerge as potential pair to challenge the established names. Former world number one Koo KK/Tan BH is expected to add competition tighter in this category.
    R/32 highlights : Nayaka/Yusuf (INA) v Huang KX/Zheng SW (CHN), Issara/Puangpuapech (THA) v Angriawan/Saputra (INA)

WD top-seed Maheswari/Polii also Chinese relatively new partnership Tang JH/Tian Q have withdrawn, Korean pairs should be the strong candidate to gain best outcome through Chang YN/Lee SH, Go AR/Yoo HW, Jung KE/Shin SC. Two Malaysian combos, 2015 SEA Games gold and silver medalist Anscelly/Song FC and Vivian Hoo/Woon KW respectively also Chinese junior Chen QC/Jia Yifan are considered to go further in this tournament.
    R/32 highlights : Kittiharakul/Prajongjai (THA) v Chen QC/Jia YF (CHN), Hanadia/Permatasari (INA) v Vivian Hoo/Woon KW (MAS)

First seed Ko SH/Kim HN, 3rd seed Jordan/Susanto and 4th seed Reginald Lee CH/Chau HW will make amend of their Superseries setback in JPN & KOR and do better here. The dangerous darkhorses Chinese youngsters Zheng SW/Chen QC and Huang KX/Huang DP may pose threat for those favourites. Indonesian #2 Widianto/Dili who bagged IND GP Gold early this year needs consistency to fulfill their seeding position.
    R/32 highlights : Ko SH/Kim HN (KOR) v Alexander/Oktaviani (INA), Sudket/Saralee (THA) v Reginald Lee CH/Chau HW (HKG)

Some shuttlers that have withdrawn according to ts.com updated : Tommy Sugiarto (INA), Wei Nan (HKG), Zulfadli Zulkiffli (MAS), Yao Xue (CHN), Ko SH/Shin BC (KOR), Chrisnanta/Triyachart (SIN), Kim GJ/Kim SR (KOR), Maheswari/Polii (INA), Tang JH/Tian Q (CHN), Kim GJ/Shin SC (KOR), Shin BC/Chae YJ (KOR), etc.

The tournament will begin today (09.00am local time, 4 courts), starting from qualifying round and R/64 MS later on this evening (05.00pm), order of play => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=E4857758-9954-4BFC-BBE5-D24113FDE1DC

Thanks @ clely for always updating the forum. I guess the match of the day for ms event will be the match involving Lee Hyun Il. Really interesting to note that he will be the oldest player to play in this tournament. I am very sure Lee Hyun Il will really try his best and go all out to defend his third grand prix gold title for this year.

Barring any upsets Lee HI will meet home hero Ponsana at last eight then Hu Yun in semifinal. Son WH gets tricky test today, Japanese Riichi Takeshita.

Simon vs CWF is in the main draw. Simon should nail this one.

since Kim duo (Kim GJ/Kim SR) are late withdrawn, KKK/TBH have their opportunity to reach at least QF...

As usual Son Wan Ho survived the first round scare by winning over Richie Takashita narrowly 21-16 28-26. Throughout the whole match Richie played a very good game and he was leading the game by leaps and bounds. Richie was leading the first set of the game 11-3 before going for interval break. Luckily Son Wan Ho was able to catch up after that and won the game finally. With such a shaky performance from Son Wan Ho I doubted he can go far in this tournament. And again as usual Korea needs to depend on Lee Hyun Il to win again.

Simon Santoso is actually a very good and talented player. I am really full of respect for this player. One thing that I cannot understand is why he chose to leave the national setup when he is such a good player.

Simon Santoso passed first hurdle Chong Wei Feng comfortably, 21-4 / 21-15. Next, he will take on home player Mek Narongrit then most likely Son Wan Ho at last sixteen. Santoso world ranking has been plummeted to #148, his best outcome so far in this year was being semifinalist at SIN SS last April.

But then anyway Jeon is playing against an easy opponent today so he is able to win it. Unsure whether he can still win tomorrow match.

Because as soon as he returns his performance, body language will change back to his prior form. I think he can't handle the pressure in national camp. On other thing, he seems to be either injured easily or sick due to ridiculous reason by staying in the national camp.
