Hey y'all, So recently, I just got a brand new shiny Nanoray 900 and the store I bought it from happens to offer free stringing. They offer all of the Yonex strings. I was wondering what type of yonex string would be best? Also I am confused on what the difference between soft and hard feeling is. And also what does repulsion do? Does it make you hit further? I'd say I am an intermediate player currently using an ArcSaber 7 with BG-65 string at 24 lb. I'm pretty good at clears and lifts and all those hard shots but my nets and drops are pretty bad. So basically I'm bad at soft shots and control. My smashes are okay but not the strongest and fastest you would get from a player my age. I play 3 times a week, both singles and doubles. I guess I'm looking for a string that will have good control and sound. Also effortless swings would be cool. Sound is not that important but I love the crisp sound when you hit the shuttle, haha. Anyways, just looking for a string that suits me. I'm not a pro at this but I heard the BG-80 and BG-66UM are good? Thanks for your help, guys. I really appreciate it
bg80 power might be a good try - not so hard like bg80, which will help with control shots. bg66um also a good shout. High repulsion strings mean shuttle spends less time on the string bed - control is more difficult.
I looked at the BG-80 Power. It seems like it would work for me except that it says for hard hitting players. I'm certainly not a strong player. Would that be a disadvantage? The BG-66UM might do the job though. Thank you for replying
Durability would be great but I heard that the Nanogy 95 was kinda slippery or something? I don't know what that's supposed to mean.
If you're used to BG65 and you like it - then why changing it? If you really want to try something else, you will not go wrong with BG80 or BG80Power. I would stay away from BG66UM unless you are stringing your own rackets or have a stringer next door. BG66UM feels great the first couple of hours but looses tension and crispness very quickly. Other alternative would be a NBG99 which is a bit more slippery than BG80 but is a good overall string with good durability. Personally, I loath NBG95 since it has no feel whatsoever and is slippery like an eel. To find our your personal best string you will simply have to do some testing and feel for yourself which one "clicks".
You can't go wrong with BG80. All time classic with a nice feeling, good tension retention and durability.
I normally string my BG-65 string at 24 pounds. Would that change if I switched to BG-80? Or do I just keep it at 24 pounds?
Don't go for 66UM unless you're happy to have your racket restrung at least once a month, if not more. Fantastic string, but rubbish durability. Keep in mind if you drop to a string with a thinner gauge, the strings will feel harder.
Yeah, I don't look forward to paying $25 a month for stringing. Btw... if BG-80 has a thinner gauge, then I should get it strung lower?
Huh? Gauge is the thickness of the string. A string has 1 gauge, if it has a different gauge, it'll be called a different string.
The gauge is the physical diameter of the string. BG 80 is 0.68mm thick (according to Yonex). If it were 0.7mm instead, it wouldn't be BG80, it'd be a completely different string.
Let's not make it more complicated than necessary. So as amleto has said, if you go with BG80 either you just keep your tension at 24 lbs. or lower it to 23. Personally, I would stay at 24 lbs. so it's easier to feel the impact of the new string alone. It's always more complex if you change more than one variable at a time.
