Okay, quick survey. Which do you prefer?
    a) Location in Richmond but with an okay ceiling height (24') OR
    b) Location in South Vancouver (edge of Richmond) but with high ceiling (comparable to VRC).
I prefer the location in South Vancouver.

High ceiling all the way, even if it is way far down south near Steveston. And if it is in the south side of Vancouver, that's even better cuz that would be really close for me!

High ceiling is good, but more importantly is lighting. It should be a tad better than community center drop-ins.

Assuming typical highschool gym floors, Playing surface shouldn't be too much of an issue if facility is well maintained.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Cappy, we are looking at a brand new facility (using existing industrial warehouse space - similar to ClearOne) so we are planning to have a wooden subfloor with tournament court mats (similar to the ones used at ClearOne) and lighting is definitely a priority to ensure that we have proper lighting.

I've just heard from the leasing broker about the location in S. Vancouver and he wants to verify that the landlord is okay with the use of the warehouse space.

Hey awesome! Sounds like things are going along pretty nicely!

Couldn't wait to see a new facility opening up!

Someone told me that federal/provincial safety regulators have issues with ClearOne before because the building is a warehouse converted into a sport facility (perhaps inadequate heating/ventilation concerns?). I wonder if the new facility might encounter similar problems.

Don't know about that but will have to check it out. The fact that ClearOne is able to operate probably means that it isn't a problem. I know that they still haven't got permission to put out a sign yet. There are a lot of requirements like number of parking spaces, etc.

    Hi WWC,
Haven't seen you for a while. Keep us posted on your project, and personally I would like to have a gym with high ceiling and wood floors - you know age is really catching up.

Wish you success in your ventures.

Hey WWC, would your facility need a stringer by any chance? I know this guy called Traum who string racquets, and I heard he is looking for work.

btw, is the floor gonna be wooden or Gerflor? I'd personally prefer Gerflor a lot more than the typical wooden floor, but cost might be an issue.

SmashingBird has just re-defined "security guard" to "door bouncer."

BTW, would the facility need any coaches as well? I'm almost done with my NCCP level 1 certification la.
