WWC, how concrete has this idea become? Only asking because I have a potential coach for the facility. Badrad and I have recently met someone who would be quite qualified for the position. In fact, this person would instantly become one of the most qualified coaches in BC. Please PM either badrad or I for details if you're interested.

The facility in mind fell through as it was a sublease and the sublandlord was not willing to give us the lead time (to install and set up the courts) without charging us.
So, we are now looking at alternative locations (which most likely will have lower ceiling but is trying not to get one that is around the height at ClearOne).

You mean higher than C1... not lower right?

I think he meant in as a negative, discouraging sort of tone. Like *sigh* lower.

Assuming that you do managed to get a suitable place for the new club... what's the lead time you'll be working with?

...well, after months of searching and looking at a number of places, it seems that unless we go for a 24' height facility, it is very doubtful if we can actually find a suitable location with high ceiling.
The other alternative is to custom-build which is going to take time and $$.

Glad to hear from you again. Where exactly would this place be? Would 24' ceiling be as high as C1? Having a good location would be a good start. With decent flooring and lighting, I am sure that could compensate for the height. How many courts would there be if you're to setup there?

Sorry for the delay.
Location will most probably be around N. Richmond area (a couple of possibilities, (a) close to Costco; and (b) close to IKEA.
Most likely the flooring with be court mats (Taraflex or equivalent) similar to ClearOne and ample spacing around the courts. Lighting will be done to minimize glare.
We are looking at between 8 to 10 courts.

That's a very good location as it very accessible from Knight St. and Bridgeport Rd. Could draw players from Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver. So what will you call the place? WINEX CENTER?

There is a "Clear One" in Richmond, this one should be named "Smash One"

I've been constantly ragging on wwcbro on Winex. I can just see the new facility being called "Winex Centre" and me being Winex honorary member (still have to pay dues though!) appointed by wwcbro.

WWC, wondering what's the progress?
With the new Smash City's impending opening in Milpitas, it seems like Vancouver's lagging behind in having quality places for drop-in. ClearOne's focus/priority seems to be on coaching and corporate bookings, rather than being a badminton hub for drop-ins, sad-to-say.

ClearOne won't survive if it's merely just another badminton hub with their limited number of courts. Their biggest revenue comes from coaching/training and corporate bookings. It's gonna be tough competiting with the rest of the community center drop-ins. Unless Winex Center can differentiate from those centers, it's not gonna work cuz it won't be able to beat their pricing and convenience. There has to be something to draw the crowd.

Richmond/Vancouver got facilities already... (clearone, VRC)...why not build one near burnaby/newwest?
I think a good place is near 91A....easy accesible from, burnaby, newwest, , delta, coq
in between of coquitlam and burnaby... There are no good facilities here in burnaby or coquitlam. (comparable to VRC or clearone)
but..the costs of the facility anually might be costly
