    Hi,
Just doing a quick survey. Would folks here be willing to join a new dedicated badminton facility (tournament court mats), high enough ceiling, good lights and dark walls (similar to Vancouver Racquets Club) but located in Richmond (at least in accessible location)?

What would be considered to be a reasonable membership fee?

I won't be surprised to see WWC getting 100+ "YES" in no time. ;)

Tournament mats on wooden floors? :) Surely yes!!!

One reason I have chosen not to join VRC is because I have limited time to play, probably 1 or at most 2 times per week. This would not justify the membership and so I chose RCB instead. Granted that the facilities can't be compared. So given my situation, I would pay max CAD $300 for a year membership.

Hopefully you can build a facility in Vancouver, for i live in Van.I prefer CAD$300 W/O initiation fee for a year. I only can play once or most 2 times per week as Viver.

BTW,Is the soon-to-be badminton club located close to NO.3 road in Richmond? If so ,it will be better.

    BRING IT ON!!! :D :D :D :D :D

How does it differ from the current Clear One though? As a starting point, regular Clear One vistors, what would you like to see improved there which you would like to see implemented if a new facility was started?

    NO!

Just kidding :D , it would be saweeet, the fee, I am looking at max $400 depending on how it works as well, such as including feather shuttles, how long its open, ect.

I would love to join for $300 a year to play in a decent dedicated facility. Is this survey going somewhere, WWC? What do you have in mind?

There is one in Vancouver, its called Vancouver Racquets Club, and its open 24/7 so it suits you well because you can only attend during the weirdest times anyways.

    More info...

...I am currently investigating the possibility of a 24x7 dedicate badminton facility. The problem is obviously how do you compete with a club like VRC which is a non-profit organization so I've been looking at the cost options, location, etc. ClearOne is nice but it's not 24x7 and it's hard to get court time (i.e. Darryl uses one/two courts for training and I believed that he has two other courts booked long-term by companies).

For something to work (looking at 8 - 10 courts), membership fees will probably be around the $400-$500 range (adult membership - still cheaper than VRC and there will be other types of memberships). To give you an idea of the costs involved (just on space rental), we will be looking at around 200 adult memberships at the $500 mark. (this is without shuttles).

If you think about shuttles, that's the biggest expense. You have 12 shuttles per tube (say a wholesale cost of $12) and you uses 1 per game and you play 3 games/hr and 3 hrs/day, so that's 9 shuttles/day and let's say you play 3 times a week, that's 27 shuttles = $27/week and at 52 weeks, you are already looking at $1404 divided by 4 players (doubles games), you are looking at $351/year so it's very highly unlikely that membership fees will include shuttles.

Membership fee excludes shuttles is fine. The existing practice adopted by VRC for bringing out birdies during games works fair (when members take out birdies of the same grade).

    member fee

If the membership fee is $500, most VRC members will want to switch to this new facility. A lot of people will end up on a waiting list to become a member.

You should give Daryl a break, open one in Vancouver instead and give VRC a run for the money, at $500, you got my support. Will keep a keen eye on this, keep us posted.
    Cheers!
