Usually they are called nylon shuttles.

    Alternative to feather shuttles

There is a product available here in the UK called

    Ashaway Quill

    Marketing information says.

"The new concept Quill has a revolutionary patented structural stem cage design. A result of years of research it outperforms conventional soft nylon shuttles. For the first time the flight trajectory is perfectly matched to a feather shuttle as is the deflection recovery speed. The design concept eliminates stem fractures making it more durable than other plastic shuttles".

I have played with Quill and they are pretty good. They fly quite well and are very durable. THEY ARE STILL PLASTICS THOUGH!!!!

I don't think they are anything like as good as playing with feathers. In my opinion.:)

Quill shuttles are pretty good for plastics, but their claim to be "more like a feather shuttle" is dubious. They certainly didn't feel like feathers when I tried them.

    *shrug*

    LOL

Perhaps SchroedingerCat is looking for duck feather shuttles?

I know a few manufacturers make them.

They're definitely cheaper than traditional Goose feather shuttles, but I am not quite sure about durability.... actually I do remember ONCE when I was younger (about 9 years old) I tried playing with duck feather shuttles... it didn't last very long though :p

    Thanks.

I have read an article (some chinese magazine) about a new invention (made in Hong Kong) called "black pearl". Someone was able to make "feather". But the material is black. There was a picture of it in the magazine. Sorry I don't have the magazine. I cannot find any more information on it.

Yes, it's misleading to say they are similar to feather shuttle. Duck feathers are of lower quality than the goose ones. As there are 16 feathers in a shuttle, it takes about 3 birdie to produce one. This is taken from either the left or right wings as there are different curvatures on the right and left wings. Don't know how try this is but good quality shuttle are from the left wing of the bird (stronger). Next time you buy a shuttle, ask for feathers from the left wings LOL :D
