anybody noticed that China won the Thomas and Uber cup in a very similar manner? neither team dropped any points in all match except for the final. they won by either 5-0 or 3-0 all the way. in the final, they both won by a score of 3-1. identically, they gain 3 points from 1st singles, 2nd singles and 2nd double, but they both lost 1 point from 1st double!
maybe tactical pairing.....although from what i have heard, they did put their number 1 pair first....so...maybe just strength in depth
That's the depth. Their #1 might not be as dominate as Ra/Kim, as the "super" lvl, but they have mult. players/pairs are in the top 5. Most other teams, they might have 1 or 2 super star, then, don't even bother to look at their #2 and beyond.
Still under the same topic:- 1. Both have people from all walks of life cheering like mad for countries that aren't of their own. 2. Both are held at the same venue at the same time, bar the finals. 3. No European country have ever won either of the Uber or Thomas Cup. 4. Asia has dominated both events with a total of 38/41 competitions held.
Re 3, whilst it is true that no European country has ever won either the Thomas or Uber Cup, the USA did win the Uber Cup 3 times, in 1957, 1960 and 1963 successively. Re 4, the Uber Finals have been held a total of 20 and the Thomas Cup Finals a total of 23 times, inclusive of the recent Jakarta Finals.
hahaha.... 3-0, 5-0 because they r stronger than their opponents.... finals.... hmm... coincedence??? anyway they get both cups this year.... hehehe
good observation! It really sounds correlated. I thought before the Thomas final that China might won 3-1 by losing the 1st double, but I never dared to think that China ladies winning the cup the same way! The chance of all these come together is not big at all ( many 0.90 x 0.90 ... x 0.10 ... multiplied together) Same thing happened many times before, just as in Japan open. Usually, china won 3 or 4 titles per tournament, men's single, ladies' single, ladies' double, always came together. But in Japan open, they could win any of 5 events simultaneously! This strongly suggested their correlationship.
