Anyone ever try wearing the high stockings that we see the pros use like Chen Long and others?

If so have you noticed any benefits?

tks

Yup.

1) Reduces leg fatigue
2) Your calves are prone to injury from the nature of badminton (lot of hard landings and movements), including shock related injuries like shin splints; they help to prevent any pain
3) They're warm

They're called calf compressions.

I wear them whenever I play now.

I just recently started wearing these and despite my initial skepticism, I do notice less calf aches the next day.

Yeah. They help stop things moving around in your legs too much.

Chen Long and Jan O Jorgensen both wear them, and they both wear very thick padded shoes. I think they're prone to soreness in their legs.

So I bought some stockings. Payback time for j4ckie after the comments i made about him wearing them. They do seem to help with shinsplints so far, but I've rested well this week. The floor was freshly swept for my match tonight so I felt fast as all heck (cheers for the shoes, Dave). I've never had such sore calves though. Very odd. But i'll take sore muscles over shin splints any day. I'll post a link to the ones i chose off ebay if any UK people are interested. £13 posted i think. Bargain. Will see how they handle me going for a bit of a jog tomorrow.

don't just wear them during play, wear them after you play. wear them when u sleep and during the day. they are supposed to increase circulation and speed up recovery after exercise.

they are also great if you do a lot of air travel. keeps the legs fresh after sitting for hours.

The sure are comfy and i like nice warm legs. My knees don't seem to like it if i wear them too much. Not wearing compression anything while sleeping! If I wear them all day and run tomorrow, If i can still walk the day after then I'll take your advice :) Maybe i took them off too soon.

I suffer from cramps in the calves from time to time... may be I should invest in some of these...

Are these socks or are they like a band around the calves that you wear above the socks?

there are 2 types, compression sleeves (tube) and compression socks.

for badminton, most players probably have their favorite socks, so it is better to get the sleeves.

I am 6t and a scrawny 11st, I went for medium long. Been wearing them all day and they do help relieve the stiff calves. I've never noticed such stiff calves so they either let me push myself further or caused an issue. I'm going with the former as its that good kind of "I earned it" not actually that painful just feeling old today kind of feeling.

I notice there are 2 types of calf compression, short one (under the knee to upper ankle) and long one (from upper knee to upper ankle) cover almost the whole leg. Which one provides better protection?

Yes they do. I have worn them also when I had shin splints. The feel is really nice in them. Unfortunately they look a bit strange, when you are playing in them ^^. Otherwise I would continue to wear them, because its comfortabel playing in them.

Update. I've had 2 sessions now thst i think would have been missed or ruined by shin splints. Notnonly were they fine but i felt faster if anything.

Worth getting the stick for "wearing tights". Karma is a bitch eh j4ckie :) I retract all my banter at you for wearing them!

I've got a couple of sets of 2XU calf guards - never play badminton without them now - awesome!
