Which string is it though? Can't blame the string if you're using something fragile like BG66. Also, was it a mis-hit or something? Those are easier to pop the strings. -Rick
ONe of mine took only three clears (they were my first hits of the day, and was cold, and mis hit them all!) Now I make sure I warm up my swing before I play, and use a racket with more durable strings, and lower tension for the first 5mins. If I were you bluebull, check your grommets to see if any of them may be causing the dameage, and make sure the stringer does a good job. If it was a very thin string, I wouldnt be surprised.
Well, Lin Dan broke 3 BG66 in 1 game, so basically say 10-15 min each. If ur strokes are very powerful, and using thin string like BG66, BG85, etc. It might be normal. U might need to switch to stirngs with better durability as BG65, BG65Ti, BG70pro, etc. If not as above, u might consider if u have too many powerful mi****s. If not, then, it might either be the stringer or the string defect.
It was BG66 strings at 25lbs on a new racket. Did not mishit, just normal baseline hit and next thing I heard was a slight 'ping' sound and realised my string broke when I checked. Guess, as advised, I will switch to BG65 strings instead and lower to 23lbs.
bg66 is extremely fragile. it was designed in the days when 20lbs is considered high tension. 3 hours is pretty long lifetime for bg66 @ 25lbs, you are not hitting hard enough! last time i strung bg66, it was around 24lbs. it snapped in less than a game. this time i got a new racket strung with bg66, i only dare to string it up to 21lbs. no more.
lol, I guess my arms are too weak. (or probably because I don't smash very often) I have BG66 at 20 pounds on my Cab20Power for about a month already, still looking perfect The actual use time is about 12-15 games already.
So your reasoning for why bg 65 is so boring? PS Is there a resurgance in Bg 66 with younger players, Taufik and Lin both using bg 66.
mmm. This forum is littered with string breakages, most of which is the BG 66. Well, I think factors which affect the string's life is probably the condition of the string when the racquet was strung and the 'prowness' of the stringer in stringing the racquet. From my experience, I've got 2 racquets now 3 racquets with BG 66 string strung at 25lbs, and non of them has broken yet. They have lasted for more than 3 months now, and still maintain the nice crisp clean sound. Am I just lucky? or am I not hitting hard enough? lol
Using 3 rackets in 3 months = average of 1 racket using for only 1 month (unless u can swing 3 rackets and all hitting shuttles at the same time. ) Even just for 1 month, depend on how often u play. I can say I play 2 weeks, but 15 hrs each, then I have 30 hrs (say 15 hrs of actual usage). For a month, if u just played 1 game (of course, extreme example), then I won't be surprise the string can last for 2 yrs with this ratio. Mind to tell us how many hrs of (in play) u used the racket(s)?

No, 25lbs is not too high. It is highly likely that during stringing, the string was either being twisted/kink and/or stabbed by awls. The string takes a lot of abuse in the stringing process from the awls. Try a stringer who doesn't use awls.
BG65 is still the favortie string by a lot of elites. However, compare to old days, now more and more elites willing to try the newer and thinner strings, such as BG66 (Lin Dan, Taufik), BG80 (Gade), etc. I got information from various threads, as I could not make a trip to the big Opens.
