So my Wise sounds like a steam train pulling into a station when its 'chattering'. I suspect it needs greasing. Just open case and lube up some runners/that screw thread in the middle? With white lithium?
Clean the worm drive before you lube it, and use something "persistent" (i.e. grease, not WD40). Chattering can come from the gearbox as well, though, so you might want to look inside.
Found your teardown thread, cheers for posting that. I'll post my question here rather than hijacking that. I'm hesitant to open a geabox so I'll go for just the worn drive this time. Wise users, how much front/back play is there in the gripper housing? Mine goes maybe 2mm either way and is squeaking. Something seems to need tightening up a tad. Just checking with previous owners(es) if it might be in warranty. I assume not as that's the more fun option.
The puller head will rock slightly on the worm drive, but there's nothing to be done about it; the two hex bolts you can see at the top are for the strain gauge (which measures the tension). 2 mm play is perfectly acceptable. (Go on, be brave - get the gearbox open.
I was not brave. But its faster and smoother and quiter now so I'm happy. 1 rubber glove 1 can of lube 1 rod 5 minutes later and 1 happy duck
I've just regreased the work gear again. white lithium grease seems to have dried up so this time I used the mintex ceratec.
Greased my runners too. Fixed clamp bases: I've tightened the nut underneath such that they lock at full range of motion. I presume this is as intended, rather than locking with a much smaller move. SO easy to pop them open though which May cause me to release accidentally.
I remember reading that spring-assisted bases are supposed to lock in the middle of the arc, not the end. Not sure about yours. One thing I'd love to do is have my clamp bases and rails skimmed. Then there's roughening/knurling of the internal brake mating faces... if I had a workshop for a day.
