Just managed to check the scores of the tournament. Well indeed few upsets have happened in the first day of the tournament. However there are a few things to note.

First of all the date of this tournament is not so suitable or favourable because it clashes with the Chinese New Year festival celebrated by Chinese throughout the whole world. I sincerely pity those Chinese players who participate in this tournament because they have to miss or forgo their once a year grand celebration because of this tournament.

Next thing is this tournament is also held right before the Thomas Cup qualifying tournament for different continents. That also mean that player who will be playing in the Thomas Cup qualifying rounds will also not be able to play in this tournament as they need to play next week.

So as a conclusion I can only say that the date for this grand prix gold tournaments is totally not a favourable one. For example the Korean players who are participating in this tournament is sure to miss their Chinese New Year celebration. On top of that some of the players who are participating in this tournament will also rushed over and fly to India by Sunday this week so that they can play in the Thomas Cup qualifying rounds. Such a schedule is definitely not favourable.

Therefore I sincerely hope that the BWF will do something about this and try not to arrange for tournaments to be held during big festive season to allow the players a chance to celebrate the festival too.

The first match at court 1 will start off with Ko Sung Hyun / Kim Ha Na match. Indeed sad to say this week I won't be able to watch any matches live because I will be busy travelling here and there to celebrate Chinese New Year. This is such a grand celebration that must not be missed. That is why I can clearly understand the feelings of the Chinese players who need to forgo this grand celebration to participate in this tournament. Not an easy task. I have applied for one week off to celebrate this grand festival.

By the way I would like to wish all the players who are participating in this tournament good luck and may you all win in this tournament. I truly understand your huge sacrifice for this tournament by kot celebrating Chinese New Year festival with your family members. Once again thank you to all the players who have made such a huge sacrifice.

CMon this is ridiculous!!! Another upset just happened. The 3rd best INA XD pair Edi/Gloria just ousted in straight set by CHN Zheng SiWei/CHEN Qingchen bah :(

Then another INA XD bites the dust. Vitaly/Nina ousted Alfian/Annisa in rubber set.

Not much of an upset, certainly not ridiculous. Zheng Siwei with Li Yinhui or Chen Qingchen had created much bigger upsets before.

Yes indeed. The Thai boy has good potential. Very mobile. Today was home ground advantage day.

Interesting performance curve for Praveen and Debby this year - either an opening round defeat or at the top of the podium.

Possibly still having difficulty with reading the gameplay of new not so established pairs.

I never expected Harsheel dani, 19 years old, defeated veteran Sony Dwi Kuncoro who shocked 8th seed LDK yesterday.

Kudos to him. Nice to see 3rd tier players of india taking steps to fit in the places of their more established seniors.

Now during the Chinese New Year celebration I am travelling around with a mobile smart phone packed with internet data. So the good news is although I may miss watching all the matches live I am still able to check the scores live.

Just as stated indeed lots of upset shave happened. And then just as usual Lee Dong Keun bite the dust once again losing the first round match yesterday. Indeed rather worrying for Korea MS now. Even Heo Kwan Hee and Jeon Hyeok Jin performance have also been inconsistent thus far. Time to work hard I guess.

I am also very happy to see Harsheel Dani winning his match too today. I guess he has a bright future. Way to go man. To be honest I couldn't watch him play live. So can you update me a bit with his game today and how he won the game? Congratulations Harsheel for winning the match today.

Harsheel Dani's win over Sony was a pleasant surprise. More upsets expected from him in the future.
