has anyone noticed Lee Hyo Jung lately? i have watched a few match that she played, i see glimpses of Ra in her. she has the height, the speed, the calmness, awareness, decisiveness. also she isn't afraid to make riskier shots.

she is also taller than Ra as well as more powerful than Ra. she lacks in the consistency dept, and i think she is kinda clumsy with her shots, and a bit laid back right now. but i think that will improve with time.

i think she will grow to be as fast and smart as Ra, and i think that will make her the successor to Ra and will continue to give the Chinese headaches.

I have noticed she has more power than Ra, and can use more angles than Ra (due to her height), and has smooth overhead strokes of good quality. She seems less comfortable at the net as Ra however, possibly because of her size and attitude to the game (attacking)

Overall to be as effective as Ra on the mixed court she needs to work on her movements and touch around the net. On the doubles court, when she becomes more experienced and should she gedt a consistent and good partner, she could become a force.

But due to her size it will be easier for opponents to find weaknesses in her game (speed and agility) and exploit them. Ra, IMO has the perfect combination of power, touch, skill around the net, and vision.

I think she could match Ra's success, but not match Ra's skill. Her style is so laid back, it seems she lacks motivation. She seems deflated easily..and can lose a run of points easily, though she does have the ability to turn it around too.

She doesn't seem to be as sharp as Ra, or possess as strong a killer instinct as her peer.

Does anyone know the coaches of both of these players?

Actually I think there is more potential in her mixed partner, Kim (Yong Hyun??).

We'll just have to wait to see if they rise out of the shadow, after Kim and Ra retire :(

I think when Kim and Ra leave the world stage, Kim and Lee will take over...

From watching her in the AE2005, it seems she is more agile now, and her skills seem better than AE2004. She still has the inconsistencies though. In the match against Gao/Huang QF, she was awesome in the first half of first game, then it tailed off.

My friend said Zhao Jian hua said she has the most talent of womens doubles player, she can be brilliant, but can be awful as well.

I will follow her progress with intrest to see if she can become more consistent. When she is flowing she is beautiful to watch.

I'm just posting some pictures of Lee Hyo Jung with her xd partners...I notice how korean xd teams are not producing much good results recently (probably because mostly they're new) without her...so I guess this is kind of a tribute... 01-1.jpg

wow! i can't believe it's been 6 years since this thread was updated. very nice tribute too man. Lee Hyo Jung is among my all-time favorite players. her partnership with Lee Yong Dae is greatly missed. it seems the Korean team can't replicate this dangerous combination :(

LHJ is among my all-time favorite player, too! =)
Yeah, I think it's gonna take some time to replace her. She was a real force in Korea Badminton team, in both XD and WD.

Personally, I want her to come back for London with LYD, but from her personal webpage, she seems to be enjoying her life right now...

That's a beautiful tribute. She always had this happy-go-lucky attitude. In her partnership with LYD, she was almost always criticized for being the "weaker" partner. If "weak" translates into all those amazing titles she won, I wonder what "strong" would have been like.

I agree madbad. I can't call her weak considering that she's won titles with different partners. She will surely be missed. Her calmness and composure on court are great combinations with her commitment, power, and deceit. It baffles me how she looked so gentle on court and yet so powerful. I could only hope that LYJ and LYD defend their title in the London Olympics. But then again, it's a good way to end her career with a gold medal in the Asian Games.

I totally agree. I LOVED LHJ/LYD pair (they're my favorite xd pair to this day and I don't know if it would ever get replaced) but I was always sad to read how people were criticizing her as the "weak" link. I was almost little bit glad when she won the gold medal in Asian Game with Shin Baek Cheol because she was able to prove her own ability without LYD and retired with the bang! (winning against 2 Chinese pairs in Chinese soil with a new partner!)

She looks really happy with her fiance in the pictures from her homepage recently and maybe I will post it here too. Like ventatesh, I would LOVE for LHJ to come back and defend her title with LYD in London Olympics, but she is going to be newly married this year and probably wouldn't want to go back to intense training you have to do for Olympics... I miss LYD/LHJ pair terribly though! Korea mixed double is doing not so well recently...=(

The guy must be pretty tall to match her height, especially if she's in heels.
