We all know that while the top end rackets of Yonex have more or less the same overall length, some rackets (Iso Ti SS, AT700) have a longer shaft while others (MP99, AT800) have a longer grip but shorter shaft.

Can anyone give an explanation what difference does this make as regards the racket's behavior and what grip one should take when moving from a long shaft racket to a long grip racket?

(In other words, Ive moved from an AT700 to an AT800DE and Im trying to work out if I should change my grip since I grip my racket high if I play with the same grip, Ive essentially got a shorter racket, please help ) :D

    From experience...

I'd say that a longer shaft than the grip (AT 700) will = more power

A longer grip with shorter shaft would give you more control.

I'm not exactly sure of the true reason why it is, but it sounds right. I mean if you have a longer grip, I guess you'd have more control of moving the racket around and all right?

    ...

A longer shaft will effectively increase a racquet's swingweight and its sole purpose is to produce more power.

    Huh?
Your guys are talking about "Small cone"?

Well as I remember since ISO 800 and Ti 8...was the most early racket with "Small cone" as I can remember, compare with "Standard cone" such as Cab 20...

No, we were talking about some long size racquets have longer shaft than regular length racquets. We are not saying about the cone.

I like shorter shaft than longer ones because its better for defense.

There is no such thing, because a long shaft can be as desirable to one and be most undesirable to another. It is a matter of horses for courses. A long shaft has a heavier swingweight, which is good if you are strictly a power player, but becomes a bit slow for lightning fast reflexes. The most popular racquet used by the top players, MP99, doesn't have a long shaft. ;)

    Offensive/Defensive Racquets

Well, I agree with you there. I tried to use the long shaft once and shifted eventually back to the shorter shaft. Gives me more control and faster reflex action especially in my backhand stroke. You can't have the best of both worlds I guess. Yet, I don't notice that much difference in my forehand smash.

Anyway, what's up with the new Yonex racquets that are "Offensive" and "Defensive". My cousin/playmate got his new ones from HK and I kidded him that he has to change racquets in the middle of the game... he he he.

The first Long racket in Yonex should be Iso 900 long, it was introduced around 1998 (may be earlier), Cab 20 long existed in 2001.

Compare with Iso 800, the shaft of Iso 900 long is only 5mm longer. Another 5mm is in the handle.

I think have seen a store selling Cab20Long in old serial numbers, so it's probably out before 2000. Yonex's site only stated the end production date.

The first long racket was long time ago......Cab-7 Long and Cab-15 Long were both out very long ago.......I am not sure exactly when, but I think it's before 1996

My Iso 900 is also in the old serial number. You can check it out Iso 900 just came a year after Iso 800.
