    Hi Guys:

I have a question, does anyone use double grips on their rackets, does it make any difference in weight or power, any comments?

    Thanks!

If you are referring to two overgrips, then Yes, I do

    More Weight?
Yes, it surely does add some weights(couple grams), depending on what grips you used.

    More Power?
No, I don't think so since the enlarged diameter on the handle is for different people's different hand size. If you have a small hand and you add two layers of grips on, then you might not like it at all.

Bot rackets with G5 grips that I wrap with 2 layers of over grip...

found that with thicker grips, there is less slipping with perspiration and also improves my directional control a little bit..
Sure it adds a couple of gramms but since its right at point of "pivot" - i dun think it affects it that much

I think the main reasons for double grip (overgrip) could be the following:

    1. Increase the grip size, most for G4, G5

    2. Increase comfortness (especially if remove original grip)

    3. Move the balance point more toward handle, however, may bring some negative effects.

Another advantage of a bigger grip is that it will help if you suffer from elbow pain, common with head-heavy racquet. Besides, the change in static balance point to a more comfortable pick-up weight-head-light-is good for your arm. However, if too big it will make it more difficult for you to change your grip constantly when playing.

Yes all the time, big thick ones as well. I used to use 3 cusion grips but now I'm down to one Kushy and one towel layer.

my at700 is 3u g5, the handle is way to dinky so i add 2 overgrips on it, it feels like a g3 now, allthough the balance point is changed a little, its easier to play doubles now casue of the little extra weight to the handle

Well I don't put two overgrips. I've got my replacment grip - or the generic grip the racquet comes with - and the overgrip.

Changes the balance of the racquet.
Changes the feel in your hands. If the grip is too small, it starts slipping.
When it changes the balance of the racquet, it might be good for those who want to take away the head heavy feel. The main reason I didn't overgrip my Ti-10 was because I knew it would distort the feeling, and I enjoy the head heavy feel.

So it's just preference I guess. Some people just buy the right grip size and never change it. Others change it if they have to to make it the size they want. Others just add overgrip no matter what.

Neither, grips are based on what you like, some people like towel grips but some people don't, so there is no best or better grips.

    3 grips?

well if u count the original racquet grip i use 3 coz on top of the original yonex grip i have 2 more yonex super grap coz they're quite thin and i like slightly thicker grips. i find it gives me more control.

It's not just u. Ppl with big hand tend to do that, especially if the racket has small grip size (i.e. Yonex G5).

Gee, this thread makes me feel like I use a grip the size of the "business-end of a bat"! :D

I have played my last SP500SS 3UG3 and is now using AT700 3UG3, and in both cases, I wrap 3 over-grips on top of the original, and I have small hand!

If the grip is too small, the racquet feels like it is going to fly out of my hands when I smash, yet I have enough control to change grips frequently & quickly.

    Cheers!

I say thicker grip is better than thinner the grip. Depending on the racket, I find head heavy racket thick grip better because head heavy give u power, so u need thicker grip to make use of the head heavy power. Thinner grip for head light.

It also depends a lot of how much overlap. I use 2 yonex overgrip over G5. But I really stretch the overgrip and little over wrap. Ends up best feel for my hands. Grip size is very personal taste afterall

but overgrip are not rubber enough to reduce shock wave.

Double grip will change your BP. Think wise. It will affect your game tho.
