I just wanted to clarify something.

I've heard that you should wait a couple of days after restringing before actually using the racket. Is this true? When I've restrung in the past, on occasions I've used it the same day and everything has seemed fine. Am I running the risk of damaging the new strings or something by doing this?

    I'm curious :)

I don't think that will make such a big difference. I know a lot of ppl tend to give it 24-72 hrs of "break in" time to let the string settle in and the tension to be more balanced.

Personally, I usually string a racket 24-48 hrs before the actual usage.

i dont see any problem with using synthetic string right after being strung, maybe faster drop in tension but that still doesnt hurt the string.

    That's an interesting point.

I usually put my racket in for stringing on a Monday and pick it back up a week later, I don't know when it's strung but because I use gut I have to use the racket for a while for the strings to settle down because they are quite powerfull when restrung but lose a bit after about 5 hours play.

    Anyone else with same problem?

Really depends. #1 reason to re-string is the string is broken. Other reasons might be like willing to try out different string, string losing too much tension, string color is ugly, haven't touch my string machine for too long, etc. :D

If i have no rackets , i will usually use it right after stringing. But normally i use it within 24hrs.

I have multiple rackets, so I wait for a week before using.

Just thought resting it would allow the uneven stressed portions to ease out. But mostly its psychological i think.

    G'day,

I use mine straight away, as the difference in tension and stress caused to the racket is quickly dispelled and equalized after a decent period of soft rally hits. This is assuming the stringer has done a good job in string first place and has not subjected the racket to severe tension changes.

I reckon that the new fresh strings are always preferred than the old tension lost strings... once I got hold of my new restrung, I go hit a few clears and after about 5, 10 mins, my racket is ready to go smashing hard as I can
