Why in badminton there are no competition to rank the teams? We don't have
matches to decide No 3 to No 12 but just competition for the champions
only. So that every country can know their place in world badminton. Then IBF
don't have to have problem with the playoff where after the group matches,
every team in 2nd and 3rd spot still have chances to enter for quarter final.
With the reason, each teams can play at least 3 matches.

There are competition that rank the teams. In the Surdiman Cup, all teams are ranked at the end of the competition. The rankings will even be carried forward into the next competition.

    OK I understand... :)
Well this means there already is a team competition of that sort in badminton in fact! (Sudirman Cup)

Difference between Sudirman Cup and Thomas/Uber Cups

jump_smash, I think what he was pointing out is that in the Sudirman Cup all the teams are ranked from the first one to the last one, whereas Thomas/Uber Cup have continental qualifications then finals and all the teams are not ranked in one single ranking (for example, if you don't qualify at your continental level, you can't compare to other non qualified teams in other continents).

Personally I find the new Thomas/Uber Cup format is rather good in fact! :)
    (better than Sudirman Cup format)

Okay, sorry. Yes Sudirman ranking is correct - ranking with group, then groups ranked, with promotion/relegation between groups.

Yes new format is good especially for lessor condeferations like mine.

Before Australia didn't have a chance as it was in the Asian qualifier, now Aussies only have to be New Zealanders to get into finals.
