Hi everyone if you need some where great to train in the south of england why not try out westgate badminton center in Winchester Hampshire. It is specifically designed for badminton and is one of very few extremely high quality badminton centres in England. Give it a go. Great for all standards. Post here if interested.
lol...purpose built halls are few and far between. There is one near me. It has a glass back where people sit and watch the games. Then, it has two courts with sprung wooden flooring, side lights (so no glare) and a domed shaped roof, so the highest point is where the net is. Really nice to play in!!
Thats not like the one in Leigh-on-Sea is it? Not over fond of it as it reminds me of playing squash and the lightings is soooo dim. Quite fond of Redbridge SC myself as its got a lot of height - do like my high clears to the back!
I live about 5 mins in a car from two purpose built centres! How lucky I am, I need to learn to play properly first
Erm dont know, you might do if you play for a team in in the Essex County Leagues as been in there for a good few years along with the Herts League.
Yeah, halls dedicated to badminton are rare, many begin life in that fashion but bow to the demands of finance and become multi-purpose halls. Of the few I know Wimbledon is about the best. I prefer the old hall, the new hall always seems to have a slight drift away from the door, and it is very cold. Speaking of cold, Castlemaine in Kent is ****ing freezing. No really, the temperature is often measured below 0 on the thermometer. People don't stand still there in case the sweat freezes them in place and they have to be rescued by the umpire with a hammer and chisel. Jo Mugg plays there as well, which often lowers the temperature even further... Horsham Arun have three dedicated courts with good lighting and dark green walls with a sprung floor. Coulsdon and Purley have a similar arrangement, as does Ebbisham. But three courts is one too few. Dedicated badminton halls are good, but they are not essential. I have played on a mat in a one court villiage hall and really enjoyed playing there. I have also played on dedicated courts and been distracted by poor lighting, slippery floors, poor temperature control, etc.
