    LIN Dan (CHN) 1*
    SUSILO Ronald (SIN)

    JOPPIEN Bjoern (GER)
    SALO Kasperi (FIN)

    LEE Hyun II (KOR) 5*
    BREHAUT Stuart (AUS)

    PONSANA Boonsak (THA)
    DEDNAM Chris (RSA)

    WONG Choong Hann (MAS) 3*
    WACHA Przemyslaw (POL)

    YAMADA Hidetaka (JPN)
    HIDAYAT Taufik (INA)

    GADE Peter (DEN) 6*
    CHIEN Yu-Hsiu (TPE)

    LLOPIS Sergio (ESP)
    KANETKAR Nikhil (IND)

    YANG Pedro (GUA)
    ANDERSEN Jim Ronny (NOR)

    HASHIM M. Roslin (MAS)
    KUNCORO Sony Dwi (INA) 8*

    PARK Tae Sang (KOR)
    GUPTA Abhinn Shyam (IND)

    SATO Shoji (JPN)
    BAO Chunlai (CHN) 4*

    VASCONCELOS Marco (POR)
    VAUGHAN Richard (GBR)

    VIITIKKO Antti (FIN)
    SHON Seung Mo (KOR) 7*

    NG Wei (HKG)
    LEE Chong Wei (MAS)

    JONASSEN Kenneth (DEN)
    CHEN Hong (CHN) 2*

The more exciting first-round matches should be the ones between Ng Wei and Lee Chong Wei, Kenneth Jonassen and Chen Hong, Roslin Hashim and Sony Dwi Kuncoro and Ronald Susilo and Lin Dan.

Damn ! The Indonesians are so unlucky ! Ronald, Sony and Taufik face so strong opposition in the early rounds. Ronald and Sony will face ever-strong Lin Dan and have to overcome Roslin Hashim in the first rounds respectively. Taufik will face Wong Choon Han in the second round if things go well.

I just hope that Taufik could overpower Wong in the second round, Peter Gade in the quater-finals, Lin Dan in the semi-finals and beat Chen Hong for the Gold.

    Predicted Results Based on Head-to-Head

This are just predictions based on the head-to-head results

    Quarter Final Prediction:
    LIN Dan (CHN) 1*
    PONSANA Boonsak (THA)

    WONG Choong Hann (MAS) 3*
    GADE Peter (DEN) 6*

    KUNCORO Sony Dwi (INA) 8*
    BAO Chunlai (CHN) 4*

    SHON Seung Mo (KOR) 7*
    CHEN Hong (CHN) 2*

Quarter Final Assumption and Head to Head:
Lin Dan vs. Ronald Susilo (1-1), but Lin Dan won the last head-to-head
Lee Hyun Il vs. Ponsana Boonsak (0-1)

Wong Choong Hann vs. Taufik Hidayat (4-2)
Peter Gade will win his first two rounds

Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs. Roslin Hashim (1-0)
Bao Chunlai vs. Park Tae Sang (2-1)

Shon Seung Mo will win his first two rounds
Ng Wei vs. Lee Chong Wei (2-1)
Kenneth Jonassen vs. Chen Hong (1-3)
Ng Wei vs. Chen Hong (0-5)

    Semi Final Prediction:

    Lin Dan
    Wong Choong Hann/Peter Gade

    Bao Chun Lai
    Shon Seung Mo

    Head to Head
Lin Dan has never met Ponsana Boonsak before, but Lin has a better chance
Peter Gade - Wong Choong Hann (9-6), but Wong won the last 4 matches, it's tough to predict
Bao Chun Lai - Sony Dwi Kuncoro (2-0)
Chen Hong - Shon Seung Mo (0-2)

    Final Prediction:

Lin Dan vs Bao Chun Lai

Because Lin Dan vs. Wong Choong Hann (2-0), and Lin Dan vs. Peter Gade (5-1)
Bao Chunlai vs. Shon Seung Mo (1-1), but Bao won in the last Thomas Cup easily.

    Winner:

It might be Bao Chun Lai, because Bao Chun Lai vs. Lin Dan (4-3)

what a crappy draw for Lin Dan!

in his half, there is firstly Ronald who just won Japan Open, then LeeHI, then either WongCH, PeterG or Taufik! and then if he goes through all that, he still have to play the winner from the bottom half.

if he wins this Gold, i think nobody will doubt that he is indeed SUPERDAN!

What a draw for the man singles in the upper draw. Lin Dan and Peter Gade meet at Sf if they can won their tough opponents in QF. Wong and Taufik meet at R16? Shon Seung Mo and Peter Gade got the easiest draw until the QF. And Chen Hong got the toughest draw since first round.

Lin Dan hasn't got an easy draw but take a look at Chen Hong. This guy is perhaps the most unlucky of the 32 shuttlers. First round encounter against Jonassen and then Lee Chong Wei in second who he lost to in malaysia open. If he makes it to a gold medal he will cartainly be the best in the tournament

Talking about tough draws I think Wong Choong Han's draw is pretty tough all current/former world #1s along the way

Round 2: Taufik (former #1 and top seed at olympics 4 years ago)
Round 3 (qf): Gade (former #1 who seems to have returned to his old best)
Round 4 (sf): Lin Dan (current all conquoring world #1)
Finals: Chen Hong (former #1 who is 02/03 seemed to rule the world).

At least he has an easy looking opening round match to get into his stride.

Chen Hong also seems to have a tough draw...

Round 1: Johanssen - never easy esp when he's playing well
Round 2: Chong Wei who beat him pretty convincingly last month
Round 3: Shon another one who beat him at the WC in 03
Round 4: Bao always hard playing a team mate
Round 5: Lin nothing needed to say about Lin

let's look at this another way, who actually have an easy draw? i think Bao's quarter is easier, but neither Park nor Roslin are easy knock over either.

what Wai Shing said made me realized, this is the Olympics, all the best players in the world are there, there will hardly be any easy draw!

it will be exciting indeed for us badminton fans. cannot wait!

Not necessarly so - African Confederation, Pan-American Confederation and Ocenia confederation champs would find it the going hard against Chinese 4 and 5, not to mention Indonesia, Malaysia (Sairul Amar Ayob won current Western Australain, Auckland and Bendigo)and possible Japanese 3rd.

That's not the point kwun was making. What he's saying is that everyone is discussing this-and-that player has tough matchups and whatnot. Well, guess what, its the Olympics, it comes around every 4 years, and no one's going to miss playing the Olympics if they have a choice. Compare to a lesser tournament, where there are some big names, but much of the field is not in the same class as the best players in the tourney. Many top-class players may not be playing for various reasons such as rest, training, injury, other issues, etc.

True, the absolute top players in the world may not be playing in the Olympics, but the best players from each country are playing.

In addition to that, the players that are in the event will all be peaking at the same time, and they will be harder to beat than at any other time in the last four years, with very few exceptions.

    Chen Hong to win !!!

I just hope that Susilo manage to win Lin Dan. Susilo has a great endurance and if he could outlast Lin Dan in the third set, he will surely win. But even with this win, their first-round encounter will absorb most of their energy and they probably could easily be defeated by Lee Hyun II or Boonsak Ponsana in the quarter-finals.

I think Taufik could upset the formbooks and defeat Wong Choon Han. In the quarter-final, he will not be able to overcome the agility of Peter Gade especially after having a hard time defeating Wong Choon Han. On the other hand, the tall Dane had much easier time in the first and second rounds.

I will place my bet on Chen Hong to win this time. His fast and strong attacking should overpower Kenneth Jonassen who doesn't has a great agility or defence.

I firmly believe that he could beat either Lee Chong Wei or Ng Wei in his second-round tie and easily trash Shon Seung Mo in the quarter-finals. In his semi-final encounter, I hope he will meet Sony instead of team-mate Bao Chun Lai and sure enough he will beat him. Finally, I believe in his ability to win Peter Gade in the final.

    Final Prediction :

    Gold : Chen Hong
    Silver : Peter Gade
    Bronze : Lin Dan

There is no doubting that there is no easy draw for anyone but ...

My opinion is that because this is a very high-ranking event (7* I think), players should be seeded to 16, not just 8. Especially when it is 32-draw event and that there are some fringe players around. Ronald Susilo, Roslin Hashim and Kenneth Jonassen/Chen Hong will probably go out in Round 1. Meanwhile Sergio Llopis, Richard Vaughan and Bjoern Joppien (with all due respect) have all the chance to make it to the last 16 in a 7* tournament.

And Peter Gade has an easy ride to the quarters so he will be relatively rested against Taufik/Choon Hann, while poor Chen Hong has not a single easy day.

Jonassen has no defence and agility?? for how many years have you been sleeping  . Jonassen is perhaps the only one who can return smashes from to the back of the court from players like Lin Dan, Chen Hong and Gade. Besides that he has an awsome endurance and is not slow neither fast. Jonassens big weakness is his net play and sometimes he lacks in offensive play, but in the last years his offensive play has improved.

He is one of the best defensive player in the world today. Only sometime he make too many unforce error.
