    Hi everyone,

Im looking to improve my deceptive play and I was looking to watch some matches to give me some help/inspiration.

I seem to remember a thread on this forum discussing a game(All england finals 2000 maybe??) which people described as one of the best examples of deception play they had seen.

I can't remember the player so can anyone help me?

    Thanks

    Robert

If you go to www.badders.com there is an article about deception by Martin-Dew Hattens, somone who used to play for England and won the All England some years ago.

Most players use deception to some degre, so you could be talking about anybody. In your case, you may be talking about Peter Gade or Hendrawan.

    More like Puella Gopichand.

Most deceptive player? Hmm, maybe Prakash Padukone. The older generation may disagree.:)

Zhao Jian Hua was pretty good.

It was the 2001 All England in which Pullela Gopichand played Peter Gade in the SF and Chen Hong in the Final.

I think Mia Audina and taufik can be pretty deceptive. Also Sigit can wrong foot most people. Must be something to do with the indonesian personality or way they train them.

I would class Sigit as more of a flamboyant player rather than deceptive - he is more daring in his replies and deceptive shots are one of those replies.

Being tricky, I'd say Haryanto Arbi if I remember clearly. It's been years.

Hendrawan and Gade when they are confident (Hendrawan uses deception more, so I guess he is a better role model).

Although Taufik can be very deceptive, Shon is not good enough to measure
Taufik's deception skills. I would pick Hendrawan playing against Xia Xuanze
in Sydney, or Zhao Jianhua playing against Joko in AE 1990.

If you are talking about the player who can make the best deceptive shots, it would have to be between Gade and Hendrawan. If your talking about just being deceptive as in the stroke and how they play the game then you would be taking about Zhao Jian Hua.

I wonder why no one mentioned Yang Yang. I guess his deceptions are more subtle, but I have seen some shots by him that completely fooled his opponents. In addition, his drop shots from the back and his clears look exactly the same until he hits it, which to me is a form of deception thats truely useful.

If you watch a game with trikush haryanto as well, he is very good at deception.

I have been meaning to get some videos of sigit and Trikush playing, I think they will be fun to watch!

My vote also goes to Hendrawan. Deception was fundamental to his style, to a larger extent than any other player I've seen. When he was at his prime, his shots were basically unreadable, as many of his frustrated opponents have testified.

(I haven't seen Prakash play, so I can't comment on him.)
