Wow, you are truly infatuated right now, posting in 3 different threads about the win!! :D

But, indeed she did win and LYB won't have to lose as much face as he could have and look like a buffoon.

Although I'm as thrilled with the win as much as all of you are, or should I say MOST, sorry Mia fans. I think this win is very bad for the China team's future's sake. If LYB COMPLETELY lost all face, China would learn a very tough but useful and memorable one. That is making sure your players get enough experience and not just relying on youngsters and newbies. Not to say they're not good and can't win, just don't rely on them like they did this olympics.

However you can't TOTALLY blame China, Gong Zhichao once did an interview, and she advises people to stick to more realistic and practical jobs, she also talked about the badminton system of China. It's very difficult to be good on the China team. There's just TOO many talents, you need the country to give you a chance, being "good" just isn't enough unlike other countries.

Let's just hope China learned enough of a lesson just by looking at the Men's section of the tourney. Good job Zhang!

Great win for Zhang Ning, i was rooting for her all the way...29 yrs old world champ, now olympic champ...great combo......but I give it up to mia she fought like a trooper and man she almost pulled it in the 2nd...2 silvers and she still has time for one more if she stays healthy as I don't see anyone from the netherlands challenging her. Good match...rare cuz i don't really like women's singles...

Mia is really good at attacking! I didn't expect her moving really this fast on the court!!! But in the 3rd game, Mia became tired and Zhang Ning played patiently at 3 game points!!! And finally won!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But... I really thought China was going to lose after seeing Mia won the 1st game... I feel so relieved now................... *YES!

Does anyone know why the Chinese Federation let Zhang Ning continue to play in her (relatively) old age? Maybe it is the players that make that decision or is Zhang Ning really a special case? I think it's great and it shows that age doesn't matter. Look at the Europeans, they do peak later in the careers.

Congratulations to Zhang Ning! She deserves it! The article by kwun has put a deeper understanding of how much this will mean to Zhang Ning. Good fight from Mia Audina! She has more titles left in her, surely.

    so sad. Mia lost.

I think she will come as winner after closed the first set. But the fact spoke differently.... Zhang seemed very patient and confident with all her shots. While Mia didn't, as the match continued tighter and tighter.

Fuhhh... May all fortune goes for Mia after this painful moment :D perhaps it's true she still has to improve her stamina also.

hmmm.... I know Mia also dropped tears, her expression and eyes showed it..... but she did strengthen her heart not to weep in the crowd like a loser kid. Perhaps she began to accept the lost.

It's painful to get ONLY silver again!, but the opponent is really strong. Zhang might took the first set also if it's not too late.... Mia's lose was quite reasonable.... although she played well but Zhang played better.

Those pictures were put on fast!

That thing on the head is something that the ancient Greeks use to wear. It's sometimes seen on their statues.

I think it is rather a nice touch and something traditional, yet simple. Seems to confer a feeling of honour on the medallists.
