KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) badminton players will enjoy a two-week sparring session with Danish youngsters, beginning on Tuesday.

Denmark's top men's singles shuttler Peter Gade-Christensen and his 25 juniors between the ages of 13 and 18 will arrive here tomorrow.

The 27-year-old Gade-Christensen, who lost to Indonesian Taufik Hidayat in the quarter-finals of the Athens Olympics recently, will be here in an effort to groom future Danish players.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) programme coordinator, How Kim Tho, said that the BJSS players would train with the Danes in the afternoon.

“We have been liasing with Peter on this for the last few months. The Danes will conduct their own training session in the morning at the Desa Petaling Hall,†said Kim Tho.

“In the afternoon from 3pm-6.30pm, they will join our players from the BJSS in training at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara.

“So far, there have been no request from Peter to spar separately with any of our national players. He is here to give the juniors from Denmark some exposure.

“They will probably get to watch our players in action at the Malacca Open (from Sept 16-19). It will be an exciting time for both the BJSS and the Danish players.â€

Gade-Christensen, who is now ranked number two in the world, is the role model for youngsters in his country. He formed the talent project, named Team Attack, two-and-half years ago when he was recuperating from a knee injury. The stint in Malaysia will be the first in Asia for his group of juniors.
